Steve Rogers Wields Mjolnir Again in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Fans Are Excited
Marvel has officially announced one of the most awaited reunions in its history with Steve Rogers returning in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ This moment echoes one of the most thrilling scenes in the MCU, now shrouded in a mystery that Marvel has been crafting since Steve walked away into the sunset back in 2019.
New concept art revealed in Shanghai shows that Steve Rogers will once again wield Mjolnir in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
While Marvel has yet to clarify how this all connects, the studio is reportedly using ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ set to hit theaters on September 25 with extra footage, to bridge the narrative gap between ‘Endgame’ and ‘Doomsday’ before its release in December. Reports also indicate that Steve will reunite with Peggy Carter and their child, which may significantly influence his motivations, potentially mirroring Doctor Doom’s own rumored family tragedy within the plot.
Despite reclaiming Mjolnir, Steve is not expected to resume the Captain America mantle, as Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will continue as the MCU’s official Captain America. Instead, Steve will adopt a Nomad-inspired role, alleviating concerns among fans that Evans’ return might overshadow Mackie’s ongoing journey as the character’s successor.
This moment carries significant emotional weight, reflecting how the MCU has developed Steve’s worthiness over nearly a decade. Rogers first hinted at his worthiness in ‘Age of Ultron’ when he was the only Avenger able to move the hammer, choosing not to lift it fully out of respect for Thor, before ultimately proving himself against Thanos in ‘Endgame.’
With Chris Evans confirmed to return alongside Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers directing, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18. This Mjolnir reveal suggests that Steve’s journey is far from over.
