Anya Taylor-Joy Shines at the ‘Lucky’ World Premiere
Anya Taylor-Joy has spent much of this summer demonstrating that a press tour can also serve as a major fashion showcase. From lace slip dresses to pleated pastel gowns, her series of appearances has captivated audiences long before her latest project even debuts.
That project is ‘Lucky,’ the Apple TV limited series that has generated excitement for months, thanks to its impressive cast and intriguing storyline. The show follows a con artist who finds herself pursued by both the FBI and a menacing crime boss after a multimillion-dollar heist goes awry.
On Monday night, all that anticipation culminated in a spectacular event. Taylor-Joy graced the red carpet for the official world premiere of ‘Lucky’ at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, wearing a stunning gown from Dior, the fashion house she has represented as an ambassador for years.
She was joined on the carpet by executive producer Reese Witherspoon, whose company Hello Sunshine played a key role in bringing the series to life, as they posed for photos ahead of the screening.
The rest of the ensemble cast also made a strong showing. Drew Starkey, Annette Bening, Clifton Collins Jr., Mo McRae, William Fichtner, and Eric Lange were all present, along with Taylor-Joy’s husband Malcolm McRae, who has become a regular at her premieres.
Starkey, who stars alongside Taylor-Joy in the series, also opted for Dior that evening, creating a coordinated look that fans quickly noticed in the flurry of premiere photos.
‘Lucky’ is adapted from Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel of the same name and is positioned as one of Apple TV’s major offerings for the latter part of the summer. The narrative balances glamour and danger, mirroring the high-stakes energy the cast brought to the red carpet.
Bening, an Oscar-nominated veteran, and Fichtner, known for his roles in prestige dramas, complete a supporting cast that adds significant weight to the series, elevating it beyond the typical summer thriller. Collins Jr. and McRae further enrich a cast clearly designed to navigate a plot with such complexity.
For Taylor-Joy, the premiere marks the end of an intense promotional period that has taken her from London photocalls to morning show appearances, culminating in this glamorous Hollywood red carpet event. Her willingness to experiment with fashion throughout this journey, mixing lingerie-inspired slips with pleated FFORME pieces before choosing Dior for the big night, has kept fashion critics and fans eagerly following her every move.
The series is set to premiere with its first two episodes on Wednesday, available on Apple TV, with new episodes rolling out weekly through mid-August. This staggered release strategy should allow the con artist thriller to build momentum in the same way its cast generated excitement on the red carpet.
