Fans of the galaxy far, far away have had an exciting summer, as Disney’s return to the Star Wars franchise finally graced the big screen after years of anticipation. Following three beloved seasons of the Disney+ series, witnessing Din Djarin and his tiny green companion embark on a full theatrical adventure felt like a genuine cultural moment for longtime fans.

Since its theatrical debut in May, ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ has sparked conversations, from box office performance to a notably mixed reception among critics and general audiences.

As the theatrical run comes to a close, fans are now eager to know when they can finally enjoy the film at home.

That wait is officially over. Disney has confirmed that ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ will be available on digital platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango, starting July 21. A 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release will follow on August 25. Both the digital and physical releases will feature exclusive bonus content not seen anywhere else, providing fans with plenty of reasons to revisit the film even if they caught it in theaters.

Among the bonus material is a behind-the-scenes featurette dedicated to the puppeteering work behind Grogu, offering a detailed look at the effort involved in bringing the character to life on screen. The featurette reveals that a team of six puppeteers collaborates to control various parts of Grogu, including individual movements of his eyelids and ears. Co-writer and producer Dave Filoni described one of the film’s main objectives as pushing the boundaries of what Grogu could achieve on screen, calling him a remarkable little actor in his own right.

The cast has also expressed their connection to the character during the film’s press tour. Pedro Pascal, reprising his role as bounty hunter Din Djarin, praised the effects team working alongside Grogu, describing them as some of the most organic scene partners anyone could ask for, exclusively to PEOPLE. Sigourney Weaver, making her Star Wars debut in the film as Colonel Ward, echoed this sentiment, admitting she falls for Grogu’s face every time, despite knowing there is a dedicated team of puppeteers just out of frame.

In addition to the Grogu-focused content, the home release will feature audio commentary from director Jon Favreau, along with additional featurettes that explore how the film’s various new worlds and creatures were brought to life. The film introduces fans to fresh corners of the galaxy following the fall of the Empire, with the New Republic enlisting Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu on a new mission tied to rescuing Rotta the Hutt.

The voice cast includes Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt and Martin Scorsese, marking his unexpected entry into the Star Wars universe. This combination of high-profile new additions alongside established fan favorites has kept the buzz around the film steady throughout its theatrical run, even as reviews from critics and audiences have diverged on how well the story resonated.

For collectors, Disney is also offering several premium physical editions alongside the standard release, including a Beskar Collector’s Edition featuring special packaging and metal poster artwork exclusive to the United States. With the added bonus content, the home release appears designed to entice dedicated fans to purchase a physical copy instead of relying solely on streaming.

With a Disney+ streaming release expected to follow in the coming months, this digital and Blu-ray rollout marks the first real opportunity for fans who missed the film in theaters to catch up. Given the anticipation surrounding the film’s theatrical debut, the early digital release date should satisfy many fans who have been eagerly waiting.
