‘Cartoon Cat’ is officially making its way to the big screen, as Hollywood quickly moves to adapt another one of Trevor Henderson’s chilling creations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony’s TriStar Pictures has secured the film rights to ‘Cartoon Cat’ in a pre-emptive deal, marking it as the second major Henderson property to be acquired by a major studio in just weeks.

This announcement follows Warner Bros.’ recent victory in a competitive five-studio bidding war for Henderson’s ‘Siren Head’, with Brian Duffield set to direct and co-write the film alongside Zach Cregger. Now, Sony aims to replicate that success by bringing ‘Cartoon Cat’ to theaters.

In contrast to ‘Siren Head’, known for its towering skeletal figure and haunting sirens, ‘Cartoon Cat’ stands out as one of Henderson’s most bizarre and unsettling creations. The creature resembles a vintage black-and-white cartoon mascot reminiscent of 1930s animation, but beneath its cheerful facade lies something far more sinister. ‘Cartoon Cat’ possesses the ability to stretch and reshape its body, grow to enormous sizes, and move in unpredictable, unnatural ways.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Cartoon Cat’ is depicted as an ancient evil that exploits humanity’s collective memories of classic cartoons to manifest in the real world. Once it appears, it wreaks havoc, establishing itself as one of Henderson’s most perilous monsters.

Trevor Henderson first unveiled ‘Cartoon Cat’ through digital artwork shared online, quickly becoming one of his most iconic original creations. His eerie monster illustrations have garnered billions of views on social media, cultivating a vast fan base that extends beyond the horror genre. ‘Cartoon Cat’ gained particular popularity through fan animations, games, YouTube videos, and online horror narratives, with many fans considering it alongside ‘Siren Head’ as one of Henderson’s hallmark monsters.

Sony seems eager to advance the project swiftly. According to The Hollywood Reporter, TriStar has already begun searching for a director to helm the adaptation. Nicole Brown and Malcolm Gray will oversee the development as work commences to bring the creature to life.

The film will be produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Scott Glassgold, J. Todd Harris, Thomas Pettinelli, and Marc Marcum. Lee and Glassgold are also producing Warner Bros.’ upcoming ‘Siren Head’ movie, ensuring that both of Henderson’s major creations are in the hands of seasoned horror producers.

Hollywood’s increasing fascination with internet-born horror has surged over the past year. The success of projects inspired by online creators, such as Kane Parsons’ ‘Backrooms’ and Markiplier’s ‘Iron Lung’, has demonstrated to studios that viral horror concepts can draw significant audiences. Henderson’s creatures have long been regarded as some of the most prominent figures in this realm, making it unsurprising that major studios are now racing to secure his work.

Sony also maintains an existing relationship with Henderson. He previously designed concept art for Screen Gems’ horror film ‘Tarot’, and this latest deal further solidifies that partnership while showcasing the studio’s ongoing interest in creator-driven horror franchises.

With ‘Siren Head’ already in development at Warner Bros. and ‘Cartoon Cat’ now progressing at Sony, Trevor Henderson’s terrifying universe is swiftly transitioning from internet horror to Hollywood. Fans who have followed ‘Cartoon Cat’ for years may soon witness the nightmare creature brought to life on the big screen, with further details about the creative team expected to be revealed in the coming months.
