Jensen Ackles may not have a specific timeline for Russell Shaw’s return to CBS’ popular series ‘Tracker,’ but he has expressed his eagerness to come back whenever the show needs him.

Russell, the older brother of Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw, played a more significant role in ‘Tracker’ during season 3. His storyline took a darker turn when he left Colter to pursue his own mission, keeping his intentions hidden from his younger brother. The season concluded with many questions about Russell’s decisions and what lies ahead for him.

In the season 3 finale episode “The Best Ones,” Russell’s future was left ambiguous. After following leads related to their father Ashton Shaw’s death, Russell seemed to diverge from Colter’s path. The brothers were no longer collaborating, and the mystery surrounding Russell’s choices set the stage for season 4.

Recently, Ackles provided an update regarding his potential return. At Creation Toronto 2026, he was asked about his future on ‘Tracker.’ According to Robyn Phillips’ YouTube coverage of the event, Ackles mentioned that he is still waiting for the show to reach out to him about his comeback.

“I dip in and out of the show, Tracker. Just started its fourth season, so, I’m waiting for the phone call,” Ackles stated.

Although his comments were brief, they offer fans hope that Russell Shaw’s narrative is far from over. Ackles did not imply that he has exited the series permanently, indicating that he remains open to returning when the right storyline emerges.

Ackles’ availability is likely a key factor in Russell’s limited appearances. He has several significant projects competing for his attention, including the upcoming ‘The Boys’ spinoff series ‘Vought Rising,’ where he will reprise his role as Soldier Boy while also serving as a producer.

Despite his busy schedule, both Ackles and ‘Tracker’ star Justin Hartley have spoken positively about their collaboration. Since Hartley is also an executive producer on the series, it seems the team is eager to bring Russell back whenever the storyline permits.

With season 3 concluding the major mystery surrounding Ashton Shaw’s death, season 4 could pave the way for a new chapter in the Shaw family saga. Reuniting Colter and Russell could provide the series with a fresh direction while delving into the complex relationship between the two brothers.

The production changes for season 4 could also create more chances for Ackles to return. The show is relocating production from Vancouver to Los Angeles, which may simplify scheduling for some of its guest stars.

As per CBS’ fall 2026 schedule, ‘Tracker’ season 4 is anticipated to return later this year while maintaining its Sunday night time slot. Although the exact premiere date has yet to be revealed, the season is expected to run through May, providing ample opportunity to bring Russell back if the story calls for it.

For now, fans will have to wait and see when Colter’s brother makes his next appearance. However, with Ackles clearly interested in returning, Russell Shaw’s story may not be finished just yet.
