Annette Bening is celebrating the overwhelming response to Paramount+’s ‘Dutton Ranch’ and expresses her excitement over the show’s ability to connect with a wide audience.

The five-time Oscar nominee portrays Beulah Jackson, the formidable owner of the 10 Pedal Ranch in Rio Paloma, Texas. Her character emerges as a significant rival to Kelly Reilly’s Beth and Cole Hauser’s Rip, creating tension as both sides vie for control of the ranch and cattle business. However, as the first season unfolded, Beulah’s character developed further, revealing complexities beyond her role as an antagonist.

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan while promoting her Apple TV+ series ‘Lucky,’ Bening reflected on the success of ‘Dutton Ranch’ and noted how this experience differs from many of her previous projects.

The actress shared that while she has always taken pride in her work, it is uncommon for a project to reach such a vast audience. “A lot of what we do, people don’t really see. Doing something that a lot of people actually see is really enjoyable,” Bening remarked.

She emphasized that witnessing viewers enjoy the show has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of the experience. “I also want people to have a good time, enjoy the show and be entertained. That’s fun for me,” she added.

Bening also drew a comparison between her character Beulah Jackson and another role she plays, Priscilla Matheson, from ‘Lucky.’ While both women possess power and influence, Bening believes they are fundamentally different. She explained that Beulah has her flaws but also carries a sense of guilt and responsibility, unlike Priscilla.

“Beulah has her issues, but she feels really bad about what happens. Priscilla does to a degree, but then, if she has to sacrifice her son? Well, that happens,” Bening explained.

The success of ‘Dutton Ranch’ marks a significant achievement for the Yellowstone universe following the conclusion of the original series. The spinoff quickly became one of Paramount+’s biggest hits, drawing in both long-time fans of Taylor Sheridan’s franchise and new viewers alike.

The series has received strong reviews, boasting an 89% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also became Paramount+’s largest original series premiere and remained one of the platform’s most-watched shows throughout its inaugural season.

Due to this success, Paramount+ renewed ‘Dutton Ranch’ for a second season even before the first season concluded. Bening mentioned that she does not have any official details to share about what lies ahead, but fans are already eager to see how Beulah’s narrative unfolds after the dramatic season 1 finale.

The future of Beulah Jackson is particularly intriguing after the first season left several significant questions unanswered. With her family facing major changes and her ranch empire in a precarious position, season 2 could steer the character in a dramatically different direction.

While information about the next chapter remains scarce, Bening’s enthusiasm indicates that she is relishing her involvement in a series that has resonated with such a large audience. For an actress with decades of experience, being part of a widely watched hit seems to be something she genuinely values.
