‘The Runner’ Trailer Features Gal Gadot Racing Against Time to Save Her Son
Gal Gadot has established herself as a leading figure in high-stakes action films, but her latest thriller takes a more personal and urgent approach. Transitioning from roles in DC’s ‘Wonder Woman’ to Netflix’s adventurous heist films, Gadot is now embracing a grounded, real-time thriller that focuses on the relentless ticking of the clock.
This project teams her with director Kevin Macdonald, known for his gripping, character-driven narratives in films like ‘The Last King of Scotland’ and ‘The Mauritanian.’ This collaboration hints that the film will prioritize sustained tension over explosive action sequences.
Prime Video has revealed what viewers can anticipate. ‘The Runner’ tells the story of a mother who has only one hour and one chance to rescue her son, with the film set to stream on September 2 and featuring Gadot alongside Damian Lewis.
At the heart of the narrative is Gadot’s character, a successful attorney in London whose life spirals out of control when her son is kidnapped. She must follow a series of cryptic instructions from a mysterious caller, racing through the city in a desperate effort to save him before time runs out.
This premise places London as a significant character in itself, serving as an obstacle course. The film was reportedly shot in various locations including Kentish Town, Regent’s Canal, St Pancras Way, and Canary Wharf, emphasizing a narrative built on constant, unyielding momentum rather than a singular, static backdrop.
Damian Lewis joins Gadot in a role that has largely remained under wraps during the marketing phase. Early images revealed his character dressed in a formal black trench coat, presenting a controlled and observant demeanor near Gadot’s character and her son, although his exact role in the story has yet to be officially disclosed.

This film marks the inaugural project from Rockwood Pictures, a new company established by producer David Kosse. Kosse brings significant industry experience, having previously worked on acclaimed films like ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’ and ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.’
Macdonald directs from a script penned by Mark Gibson, known for his work on ‘Snow Dogs’ and ‘The Wild.’ Amazon MGM Studios holds the worldwide distribution rights to the film, continuing the platform’s commitment to star-driven original thrillers.
Production for ‘The Runner’ commenced in April 2025 and concluded that summer, with filming entirely taking place in London. The Motion Picture Association has assigned the film a PG-13 rating due to violent content, some bloody imagery, sexual material, strong language, and a drug reference.
This project represents a tonal shift for Gadot, following her portrayal of the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action ‘Snow White,’ as she returns to the high-intensity thrillers that initially established her as a global action star. Unlike her more fantastical roles, ‘The Runner’ appears to root its tension in a more relatable scenario: a parent’s desperate struggle to protect their child.
The film also fits into an increasingly busy schedule for the actress, who is involved in projects like ‘Bitcoin’ alongside Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson, as well as the World War II drama ‘Ruin,’ which are all in various stages of development. This variety indicates Gadot’s intention to diversify her portfolio beyond the franchise blockbusters that first brought her fame.
