Kelsey Grammer’s Beast is set to make a return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Doomsday, but fans can anticipate a significantly different version of the character compared to his surprise cameo in The Marvels.

The mutant scientist made his MCU debut during the post-credits scene of The Marvels, where audiences were thrilled to see Grammer reprise his role as Dr. Hank McCoy. However, new insights indicate that Marvel Studios is revamping Beast’s visual design for his upcoming appearance, aiming to align it more closely with the classic comic book representation that many fans cherish.

The updated look was unveiled through concept art shared by former Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park. The artwork showcases several major characters expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, including Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and the returning X-Men characters.

Among the featured characters is Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, showcasing a design that aligns more closely with his iconic comic book appearance. Instead of the white lab coat and glasses seen in The Marvels, this iteration of Hank McCoy appears shirtless, displaying his large, blue fur-covered physique.

This transformation marks a significant shift from Beast’s brief introduction in the MCU. In The Marvels, he was seen in what appeared to be an X-Men research facility, dressed as a scientist in a white coat and glasses, assisting Monica Rambeau after her transportation to another universe.

The new design for Avengers: Doomsday seems to emphasize Beast’s superhero persona rather than his scientific role. It also aligns with the aesthetic of the other X-Men characters revealed for the film, who are expected to don outfits inspired by their most recognizable comic book looks.

The concept art depicts the X-Men team embracing their classic designs, including Cyclops in his iconic blue and yellow costume and Mystique in her traditional white outfit. Beast’s more muscular appearance suggests Marvel may want to showcase his strength and combat skills when he finally joins the larger crossover.

This will be Grammer’s third portrayal of Beast, having first played the character in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and returning nearly two decades later in The Marvels. While his previous portrayals highlighted both his intelligence and combat abilities, Avengers: Doomsday could present audiences with the most dynamic version of Beast yet.

The connection between The Marvels and Avengers: Doomsday could play a crucial role in the narrative. Beast’s appearance in the post-credits scene introduced a new universe linked to the X-Men, which may be the origin of the mutant team in Doomsday.

Monica Rambeau’s entry into that universe might also be significant if the character returns. Her ties to both realms could help clarify how the X-Men become involved with the Avengers and other heroes during the impending multiverse conflict.

While Marvel has yet to disclose exactly how Beast will integrate into the storyline, his new design suggests that the character will play a much more prominent role than his brief appearance in The Marvels. With the X-Men finally joining the Avengers in the same film, Beast’s return could be one of the most thrilling aspects of this massive crossover.
