Marvel Studios has dedicated much of the past year to building excitement for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ releasing character-centric teasers featuring Steve Rogers, Thor, the X-Men, and the Wakandans before unveiling the full trailer this week. Fans had eagerly awaited the public release of the CinemaCon footage since April, and the anticipation has certainly paid off.

The star-studded ensemble alone was enough to ignite a frenzy online. Robert Downey Jr. takes on the role of Doctor Doom, facing off against a formidable lineup that includes Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Florence Pugh, along with returning X-Men icons like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn.

Now, the numbers are in, and they are impressive. The first full trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ amassed 300 million views in just 8 hours, making it the second fastest trailer in history to reach that milestone.

This rapid pace places it in elite company. For comparison, the trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ took a full 24 hours to hit 360 million views, a figure bolstered by over 100 million viewers during its Super Bowl airing. In contrast, ‘Doomsday’ achieved its numbers organically, without the aid of a televised event.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has also set other benchmarks this year. The four character teasers that preceded the full trailer garnered a combined total of 1.02 billion views, a figure reported by The Hollywood Reporter that surpassed Marvel’s previous trailer launches on both Instagram and TikTok. These teasers also sparked over a dozen organic trending topics on X, with ‘Doomsday,’ ‘Steve Rogers,’ and ‘Thor’ all making the list.

For context, ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ achieved 202 million views in its first 24 hours last year, a number tied to a significant media event featuring its cast. The fact that ‘Doomsday’ surpassed those figures without a similar promotional boost speaks volumes about the current level of fan enthusiasm as the film approaches its December release.

The trailer itself offers plenty for fans to dissect. It showcases Doctor Doom preparing to wage a multiverse-spanning war against Earth’s heroes, while Thor reunites with Chris Evans’ Captain America for the first time since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Fox’s X-Men characters, including Professor Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Cyclops, officially enter the Avengers’ universe alongside returning characters from the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is reportedly aiming for a runtime of around 165 minutes, making it the second longest Marvel Studios production after ‘Endgame.’ Balancing such a massive cast across multiple franchises has posed a significant editing challenge, but the studio remains committed to the film’s December 18 release date.

The trailer’s performance comes at a crucial time for the franchise, following a period where several MCU releases underperformed at the box office. This impressive number, generated purely through organic interest rather than a broadcast event, suggests that fans are more engaged than recent years might have indicated.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ now less than five months away and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on the horizon for the following year, Marvel seems to be gearing up for its biggest crossover event since ‘Endgame’ concluded the Infinity Saga. Whether the film can live up to such a dominant trailer rollout remains a pressing question for fans.
