San Diego Comic-Con always presents Marvel fans with a whirlwind of excitement, but this year’s Hall H programming felt particularly electric, almost as if it were a major event rather than just a sequel. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already being hailed as the most anticipated film from any studio this year, featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom alongside a star-studded cast drawn from the MCU and previous Marvel films.

Costume displays and prop showcases have become a unique form of teaser, and Marvel’s booth fully embraced this trend. Among the attractions was a massive Sentinel head photo op, along with a section dedicated to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and merchandise highlighting the film’s significant X-Men involvement.

Amidst all the excitement, one mannequin caught everyone’s attention. Marvel Studios showcased a new outfit for a character dubbed the ‘Latverian Witch,’ giving fans their first look at a character previously unseen on screen. The costume featured flowing green robes, metallic clasps, a hooded cloak partially hiding a silver face mask, and a green belt with a silver diamond buckle whose significance remains unclear.

As expected, the internet quickly began making comparisons. Fan accounts shared side-by-side images of the new costume alongside a classic green-cloaked sorceress from Marvel comics and a photo of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff. This led many to speculate that the character might not be new but rather a disguised Wanda, hiding in plain sight. Exclusive photos showed the character posed in front of a green stained glass window, with robes closely mirroring Doctor Doom’s visual style.

This speculation is fueled by the fact that Olsen has been absent from the MCU since Wanda’s apparent demise in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ A growing number of theorists suggest that the Latverian Witch could signify her return, not as the Sokovian Avenger but as a variant directly recruited by Doom, with her origins reimagined as Latverian. Additionally, Doctor Doom’s backstory includes a witch, adding another layer to the speculation.

In the comics, Victor von Doom was born to a Romani mother named Cynthia, who was a witch that perished after making a deal with the demon Mephisto. Cynthia von Doom’s magical abilities and her tragic fate have been pivotal in shaping Doom’s character for decades.

Marvel has also contributed to the buzz by unveiling a Doctor Doom action figure equipped with red energy attachments, a hue closely associated with Wanda’s chaos magic. Other rumors suggest a different direction, hinting that Doom might be portrayed as a family man in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with the Latverian Witch as his wife, whose early death could serve as the emotional trigger for his multiversal rampage.

While nothing is confirmed, the ambiguity surrounding this Comic-Con reveal is intentional. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, providing ample time for fans to analyze the costume in detail. Do you believe the Latverian Witch is Wanda in disguise, or is Marvel introducing a completely new character? Share your theories in the comments.
