Tom Holland Confirms His Next Movie After ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Tom Holland has had an incredible year. He made his mark in the Nolanverse with a standout performance in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ is set to return in Destin Daniel Cretton’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ and even starred in a Pepsi ad with Lionel Messi while marrying his longtime partner Zendaya.
While many actors might take a break after such a busy schedule, Holland is already looking forward. Following the promotion of ‘Brand New Day,’ the 30-year-old actor is preparing for a long-awaited role that has been in development for years.
In a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Holland confirmed that his next film will be the long-anticipated Fred Astaire biopic directed by Paul King, known for ‘Paddington’ and ‘Wonka.’ Holland stated, “We have Fred Astaire next, is what we’re planning on doing,” and mentioned that he will dive back into dance rehearsals as soon as his current press tour concludes.
This project has been in the works since Holland first announced his casting back in 2021. The film will explore Astaire’s life and career alongside his sister Adele, tracing their journey from a modest vaudeville act to Broadway and the West End, culminating in Fred’s rise to stardom in Hollywood. The screenplay is penned by Steven Levenson, known for ‘Fosse/Verdon’ and ‘Tick, Tick… BOOM!’
Holland has already started preparing for this physically demanding role, sharing that his initial rehearsals were both exciting and daunting due to the extensive work still ahead. He has expressed a strong desire to perform all the dance sequences himself without doubles, aiming to film the routines in single, continuous takes, reminiscent of Astaire’s own style.
However, not everyone is supportive of the biopic’s development. The Astaire estate has raised objections, claiming that Fred was “explicit in his Will” about not wanting his story to be depicted on screen, and they have reportedly threatened legal action. Despite this opposition, the film seems to be moving forward, with Holland telling GQ that production is aiming for a January 2027 shoot.
Fred Astaire starred in 30 musicals from 1932 to 1957, including ten films with his iconic dance partner Ginger Rogers. Director Paul King has gained a reputation for blending whimsy with technical skill, and his latest film, ‘Wonka,’ became a global box office success.
With rehearsals underway and a shooting schedule reportedly in place, Holland’s transformation into one of Hollywood’s most legendary dancers is finally taking shape. What are your thoughts on Tom Holland swapping his Spider suit for tap shoes? Share your opinions in the comments.
