Marvel’s Comic Con weekend continues to resonate with fans, thanks to exciting casting announcements and intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpses. This year’s panel offered a wealth of content for fans to analyze, with standout moments stemming from the stars themselves sharing ideas that weren’t officially announced.

One highlight featured Robert Downey Jr., who has been redefining his role in the franchise as a formidable villain. Following the confirmation of Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider at the same event, discussions naturally shifted to how this character might connect with Marvel’s expanding multiverse.

During the conversation, Downey expressed his desire to see Gosling’s Ghost Rider join forces with Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir. According to comments shared through Entertainment Weekly, Downey envisioned the duo riding together on a motorcycle with a sidecar, a concept that quickly captured fans’ imaginations online.

This idea emerges at an exciting time for both characters. Gosling’s role as the new cinematic Ghost Rider was confirmed during Marvel’s Hall H panel, with Shawn Levy set to direct a standalone film slated for release in 2028. This marks the character’s long-awaited return to the big screen after Cage’s portrayals of Johnny Blaze in 2007 and 2011.

Cage has also made a surprising return to the Spider-Man universe, albeit not within the MCU. He currently stars as the titular character in Prime Video’s ‘Spider-Noir’, a black-and-white detective drama based on the character he originally voiced in the animated film ‘Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse’.

Given that Cage previously played Ghost Rider, the prospect of him sharing the screen with a different actor in the same role adds a layer of meta humor to Downey’s suggestion. This also aligns with the growing trend of Marvel’s multiverse, which is increasingly blending characters from various corners of the franchise.

Fans reacted enthusiastically to the idea, with the image of a flaming motorcycle carrying a black-and-white detective in a sidecar resonating strongly online. This concept fits perfectly within the unexpected crossover spirit that Marvel has embraced during its ongoing Multiverse Saga, especially with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on the horizon as a potential venue for such collaborations.

Whether Downey’s comment leads to anything beyond a fun hypothetical remains uncertain, as neither Gosling’s Ghost Rider film nor Spider-Noir’s future seasons have confirmed any crossover plans. However, with Marvel’s recent willingness to experiment across different mediums and tones, the idea doesn’t seem entirely out of reach.

For now, fans can only imagine what that motorcycle ride would look like on screen. Given the buzz generated by this pairing within hours of its mention, it wouldn’t be surprising if Marvel takes note of the strong desire for it to become a reality.

‘Ghost Rider’ is set to hit theaters in 2028, while ‘Spider-Noir’ continues to stream on Prime Video.
