Michael B. Jordan Excited About David Jonsson Joining ‘Black Panther 3’ as Black Panther
Michael B. Jordan has expressed his enthusiasm regarding David Jonsson taking on a significant role in Marvel’s upcoming ‘Black Panther 3’.
During the premiere of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ in Los Angeles, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Jordan and inquired about Jonsson’s casting. Jonsson is set to portray an adult version of T’Challa’s son in Ryan Coogler’s next installment of the ‘Black Panther’ series.
Jordan was quick to share his thoughts, stating, “Oh, I love it. It’s amazing! I can’t wait, can’t wait!”
The casting announcement was initially made at Comic-Con 2026, where Marvel confirmed that David Jonsson would join ‘Black Panther 3’ as the grown-up son of T’Challa, a role originally portrayed by Chadwick Boseman in the 2018 film. The highly anticipated movie is also set to be filmed on 70mm and is scheduled for release in theaters on December 15, 2028.
Jonsson’s casting signifies a pivotal new chapter for the franchise, especially following the tragic loss of Boseman in 2020. Boseman passed away at 43 after a battle with colon cancer, leaving an indelible mark on the Marvel universe and those who worked alongside him.
Jordan, who portrayed Erik Killmonger in the first ‘Black Panther’ and returned for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, has always held Boseman in high regard. The two actors forged a close friendship during their time together, and Jordan previously shared a heartfelt tribute following Boseman’s passing.
In that tribute, Jordan reflected on their bond, stating, “One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked, and now the truth of that means more to me than ever.” He added, “I wish we had more time.”
While Marvel has yet to confirm whether Jordan will reprise his role as Killmonger in ‘Black Panther 3’, his ties to the franchise and his relationship with director Ryan Coogler keep fans speculating about a possible return.
Jordan has remained one of Coogler’s closest collaborators over the years. He recently won his first Oscar for his performance in Coogler’s film ‘Sinners’, and during his acceptance speech, he continued to honor Boseman’s legacy.
Earlier this year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where Jordan received the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award, he spoke about the profound impact Boseman still has on him. Jordan shared that he felt Boseman’s presence while working on ‘Sinners’ and expressed the difficulty of knowing they would never collaborate again.
“I loved that guy so much,” Jordan remarked. “And it saddens me every time I think about it that I won’t get a chance to work with him again.”
With David Jonsson now joining the ‘Black Panther’ legacy, fans are eager to see how Marvel and Ryan Coogler will continue the story. Jordan’s positive response indicates that those involved with the franchise are enthusiastic about this new era, but audiences will have to wait until 2028 to witness how this chapter unfolds.
