‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed Did Marvel Deliver
The initial reviews for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ have arrived, and early reactions indicate that Marvel may have yet another successful Spider-Man film on its hands.
The upcoming film featuring Tom Holland has garnered a strong score on Rotten Tomatoes, offering fans a glimpse into critics’ responses ahead of its theatrical debut.
As per Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ currently boasts a 90% Tomatometer score based on 73 critic reviews. While some reviewers noted certain issues with the film, the overall feedback has been positive, with many commending its narrative, action sequences, and focus on Peter Parker’s journey.

This film marks the fourth entry in the MCU Spider-Man series starring Tom Holland, following the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. In this installment, Peter Parker begins anew as the world has forgotten his identity. The movie delves into a more independent version of Spider-Man, who must protect New York while facing new challenges and changes to his abilities.
Several critics have pointed out that this film feels distinct from previous Spider-Man tales. Alexander Zalben from Comic Book Club awarded the movie a Fresh rating, praising its ability to balance multiple storylines. He described it as “a brand new day for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise, one that’s full of heart and action.” He emphasized that the film successfully navigates various ideas while keeping Spider-Man at its core.
Joey Morona from The Cleveland Plain Dealer also provided a favorable review, noting that while it may not reach the heights of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, it could be a more cohesive film overall. Morona stated, “Brand New Day might not reach the dizzying highs of No Way Home, but it’s arguably the more complete movie.”
Other reviewers praised the film for taking Spider-Man in a more grounded direction. George Simpson from Daily Express awarded it 4 out of 5 stars, mentioning that the departure from the high stakes of ‘No Way Home’ allows for a deeper focus on character development. He added that there remains plenty of action and excitement that fans expect from Marvel.
However, not all reviews were entirely positive. Odie Henderson from The Boston Globe gave the film a Rotten score, criticizing Marvel’s emphasis on setting up future projects and catering to fan service. Henderson remarked that “far too much time is spent in ‘SM: BND’ on introducing characters or fan service situations that will be continued in future installments.”
The film has also been lauded for its performances, particularly Sadie Sink’s role. Zach Pope awarded the film a perfect score, calling it a significant Spider-Man narrative, stating, “Nearly every character serves Parker’s journey, making every moment feel purposeful.” He further added that Sink “might just steal the entire movie.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ sees the return of Holland as Peter Parker, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.
With a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score and predominantly positive early reactions, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ seems to be off to a promising start. The film arrives as Marvel continues to build toward the next phase of the MCU, while also introducing fans to a new iteration of Spider-Man who is finally standing on his own.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
