Tom Holland Missed Marvel’s Hall H Panel for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H has become a revered venue for Marvel Studios, showcasing some of the franchise’s most significant reveals over the years. For Tom Holland, it’s particularly meaningful as it’s where his journey as Spider-Man began back in 2016.
This year’s Hall H lineup felt especially significant, considering Holland’s heightened visibility in pop culture, currently starring in both ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ simultaneously.
However, Holland was not part of Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation this year. Instead, Jon Bernthal took the stage on his behalf, offering an exclusive first look at Spider-Man and Punisher facing off against Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk ahead of ‘Brand New Day’s’ release just days later.
Reportedly, Holland was unaware of the panel until he saw online that several of his co-stars were on stage without him. This unexpected reaction highlights how sudden and unplanned his absence seemed from his perspective.
His absence was particularly notable given the packed nature of this year’s Hall H. According to Marvel’s recap, the panel also included a major reveal for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo presenting much of the film’s ensemble cast across specially constructed stages in the back of the hall.
The scale of the panel created complications even before Holland’s situation became a topic of discussion. Reports from the convention floor described chaotic scenes outside Hall H, with fans who had waited overnight or even for several days being turned away despite having official wristbands, contributing to what many attendees described as one of the more disorganized Hall H experiences in recent memory.

Notably, ‘Brand New Day’ had its own separate panel at the convention, hosted by Sony Pictures rather than Marvel Studios, as Sony continues to manage the marketing and distribution rights for Holland’s solo Spider-Man films. This arrangement means Holland’s absence from Marvel’s Hall H slot doesn’t necessarily reflect his standing within the franchise, but rather a scheduling quirk tied to Spider-Man’s rights structure.
Nonetheless, being excluded from a moment shared by many of his fellow Marvel stars clearly impacted Holland, as he was reportedly surprised to learn about it only after seeing it unfold online. For an actor whose career has been so closely linked to that specific stage, this reaction is understandable, even in what is shaping up to be a massive year for him.
With both ‘Brand New Day’ and ‘The Odyssey’ continuing to dominate box office discussions, Holland’s absence from one Comic-Con panel is unlikely to hinder what is already shaping up to be one of the biggest years of his career.
