‘Furious’ Crime Drama Achieves Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
‘Furious’ is off to an impressive start with critics.
The new Hulu crime drama, created by Elizabeth Meriwether and inspired by the 1987 film ‘Black Widow’, has secured a perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 25 reviews. Premiering on Hulu on July 27, 2026, early reviews indicate that critics are already taking notice of Emmy Rossum’s latest role.
Rossum stars as FBI agent Alice Black, tasked with tracking down a mysterious female serial killer. This killer has a chilling pattern: she targets lonely millionaires, marries them, and then becomes involved in their deaths.
However, ‘Furious’ is not just another crime series about an agent pursuing a murderer. The narrative deepens as Alice’s investigation draws her closer to the killer, intertwining their lives and forcing Alice to grapple with the line between justice and revenge.
The early Rotten Tomatoes reviews suggest that this complexity is a significant reason why critics are responding positively to the show.

NME critic James Mottram awarded the series four out of five stars, commending its fresh take on a familiar genre. He described ‘Furious’ as a show that “flips the overworked serial killer genre on its head” while delving into themes relevant to the post-Epstein era.
This darker approach also resonated with TIME critic Judy Berman, who praised the show’s focus on the individuals ensnared in its unsettling narrative rather than reducing them to mere stereotypes.
“’Furious’ takes advantage of its longer runtime to get close to these people in pain,” Berman noted. “It never reduces them to cartoons.”
The Guardian also expressed admiration for the series. Critic Lucy Mangan rated it four out of five stars, praising both the acting and writing.
“A fantastic supporting cast and a dense, lean, evocative script make this television for grownups, television to pay attention to and to entertain you enormously,” Mangan wrote.
Another positive review came from Jeanine T. Abraham of VisAbleBlackwoman, who awarded ‘Furious’ a five-star rating. She noted that the cast had already set her expectations high before watching the series.
“When I saw who was cast in this series, I had an idea it would be great, and I was not disappointed,” Abraham remarked.
Variety’s Alison Herman also emphasized the show’s treatment of sensitive topics. She pointed out that while stories about trafficking and children in peril are prevalent in today’s media, ‘Furious’ excels when it transcends familiar discussions and centers on the affected individuals.
The series boasts a strong cast alongside Rossum, including Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, and Jake Lacy.
While the Rotten Tomatoes score may fluctuate as more reviews come in, the current response is undeniably impressive. ‘Furious’ has successfully taken a familiar serial-killer premise and infused it with a more serious, character-driven perspective.
For Hulu, this early reception is a promising indicator. Whether viewers will connect with the series as deeply as critics have remains to be seen, but ‘Furious’ has already made a remarkable first impression.
