‘VisionQuest’ First Look Surprises Fans Before Full Trailer Release
Marvel Studios has crafted a trilogy of Disney+ shows centered around a compelling question: what happens to an AI after it loses everything it once cherished? This narrative began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued through ‘Agatha All Along,’ culminating in a series that fans have eagerly anticipated for years.
During Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation, Kevin Feige barely mentioned the upcoming show, keeping the focus on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ This lack of information left fans craving any concrete details about what to expect.
This week, that craving was partially satisfied, though not in the expected manner. Instead of a trailer or official images, the first look at ‘VisionQuest’ came through a pair of Funko Pop figures, offering fans their first glimpse of both Paul Bettany’s Vision and James Spader’s return as Ultron.
Each figure showcases its character split down the middle, revealing both a robotic form and a human counterpart. Vision’s design closely resembles his look from ‘WandaVision,’ with his human half holding a newspaper titled “Vision Today,” suggesting a stylized inner-world narrative unfolding within his consciousness.
Ultron’s figure is particularly intriguing. His robotic appearance aligns with his final look in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ while his human counterpart, inspired by Spader, features a beard, glasses, and an eccentric outfit, raising questions about his portrayal on screen. This marks the first publicly available image of Spader’s character since his MCU debut over a decade ago.
Marvel has kept this reveal under wraps for months, with only a select few catching glimpses of concept art at in-person events, leaving the broader fan base relying on secondhand accounts. The Funko unveiling finally provides an official image for fans to discuss.
As for the much-anticipated trailer, fans will need to be patient a bit longer. Marvel is expected to unveil the first footage from ‘VisionQuest’ next month during the studio’s D23 presentation, aligning with the show’s broader rollout on Disney+ in fall 2026.
The series is helmed by showrunner Terry Matalas, with Bettany and Spader leading a cast that includes Todd Stashwick, Ruaridh Mollica, and T’Nia Miller. Bettany has previously hinted at the unusual nature of Vision’s internal world, describing it as more cluttered than fans might anticipate, given the numerous AI personifications he has stored and copied in his mind.
This kind of existential storytelling aligns with what fans have witnessed from Vision’s journey throughout the MCU, although some have expressed concerns that the focus on personhood and consciousness may detract from more straightforward action, especially regarding Ultron’s highly awaited return.
Whether ‘VisionQuest’ ultimately emphasizes introspection or action, this early merchandise reveal has already sparked conversations among fans ahead of any official marketing. With a full trailer reportedly just weeks away, the anticipation for concrete answers is finally beginning to feel tangible.
