‘Beef’ Stars Reportedly Cast as Beast and Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men Reboot
Casting speculation has become a full-time pursuit for Marvel fans, especially regarding the studio’s long-awaited X-Men reboot. Every insider report with a solid track record has become essential reading, and theories about who might portray which mutant have evolved into a genuine cultural phenomenon.
This week, speculation surged with new casting news. According to industry insiders, two names have emerged for two of the franchise’s most iconic characters, providing fans with a clearer vision of what Marvel’s mutant lineup may look like.
Charles Melton is reportedly set to portray Beast, while Cailee Spaeny is said to be attached to the role of Rogue in Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot. These claims originated from the X account @ApocHorseman, an insider known for generally accurate Marvel-related reports, though it’s important to note that Marvel Studios has yet to confirm either casting.
Melton, recognized for his acclaimed performance in ‘May December’ and his upcoming role in the second season of ‘Beef,’ has been somewhat coy yet clearly interested when asked about the possibility of joining the reboot. In a conversation with ComicBookMovie regarding a potential reunion with ‘Beef’ collaborator Jake Schreier, who is directing the X-Men film, Melton stated, “Absolutely. It does interest me for sure. Oh, yeah. That would be cool. What a dream. What a dream.”
Spaeny first gained wider recognition for her breakout role in ‘Priscilla’ before appearing in ‘Alien: Romulus.’ Reports suggest she is the top choice of both Marvel Studios and Schreier for the role of Rogue, surpassing other contenders like Odessa A’Zion, Margaret Qualley, and Inde Navarrette.
These casting choices are part of a broader wave of reporting that has also linked Adam Driver to the villain Mister Sinister. However, Marvel president Kevin Feige has already addressed that rumor, confirming that Driver was approached for a Marvel role but has declined, humorously noting that reaching out to the actor has become a running tradition that never quite materializes. This denial highlights how much of the casting landscape remains unofficial and fluid.
Marvel has been notoriously tight-lipped about the entire project, which is being penned by Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin and directed by Schreier following his work on ‘Thunderbolts.’ Despite widespread anticipation for a cast reveal at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the studio’s Hall H panel focused on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and surprise announcements like Ryan Gosling’s casting as Ghost Rider, leaving X-Men casting unconfirmed.
This silence has intensified speculation that Marvel may reserve its X-Men announcement for Disney’s D23 Expo, scheduled for August 14 through 16 in Anaheim. Schreier has acknowledged that casting discussions are underway but cautioned fans not to treat every online rumor as confirmed fact.
Melton and Spaeny are not the only names being discussed for the project. Reports have also linked Cooper Hoffman to Cyclops, Sadie Sink to Jean Grey, and Bill Skarsgård to Professor X, but none of these castings have been confirmed by the studio, just like Beast and Rogue. The sheer number of credible names circulating simultaneously indicates how effectively Marvel has managed to keep the project under wraps despite months of relentless fan speculation.
The reboot is being positioned as a fresh start for the mutant franchise within the MCU, distinct from the Fox-era films that introduced most audiences to characters like Beast and Rogue. Schreier, along with writers Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin, are reportedly aiming for a character-first approach that emphasizes emotional stakes before large-scale spectacle.
Until Marvel makes an official statement, names like Melton and Spaeny remain speculative, no matter how credible the sources behind them may be.
