Marvel’s reboot of the mutant franchise has been a hot topic in the industry for years, with fans eagerly casting their ideal actors long before Marvel Studios confirmed the project. With director Jake Schreier on board and the door officially opened by ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ the speculation has only intensified recently.

This week marked a significant turning point when Sadie Sink debuted as Jean Grey in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ confirming the first official piece of the casting puzzle. Rumors about her involvement had circulated for over a year, with Sink herself revealing to Entertainment Weekly last November that the buzz around Jean Grey began before she even knew which project she was part of.

The excitement didn’t stop there. Just a day after Sink’s reveal, it was reported that Samara Weaving has secured the role of Emma Frost in the upcoming ‘X-Men’ film. This marks the first confirmed casting of a specific mutant character beyond Sink, with a rumored lineup now widely shared online ahead of an anticipated full reveal at D23 this month.

The current rumored cast includes Inde Navarrette as Mystique, Charles Melton as Beast, Cailee Spaeny as Rogue, Jayme Lawson as Storm, Drew Starkey as Cyclops, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, and Bill Skarsgård as Professor X, alongside the confirmed roles of Sink and Weaving.

Some names in this lineup carry more weight than others. Navarrette, fresh from her breakout role in ‘Obsession,’ confirmed on Variety’s Up Next podcast that she has met with Schreier directly. When asked which mutant she’d like to portray, she immediately mentioned Mystique, adding that she “giggles” whenever new X-Men rumors arise because she “knows the truth,” a comment that has sparked further fan speculation.

The casting for villains has been particularly chaotic. Initially, Driver was rumored to play Magneto, but that speculation has shifted, with sources now suggesting he is attached to Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Skarsgård’s name has been mentioned as one of several actors considered for Professor X.

Cyclops remains one of the most complicated roles in the rumor mill. Various names, including Cooper Hoffman, Harris Dickinson, and Drew Starkey, have been mentioned for the part, but no trade reports have confirmed who has officially landed the role.

It’s important to note that much of this casting news is still speculative rather than officially confirmed. Aside from Sink’s onscreen debut and the trade-confirmed casting of Weaving, most of these names come from social media insiders and scoopers with varying track records, meaning the lineup could change before Marvel makes any official announcements.

However, an official reveal seems imminent. With Disney’s D23 event approaching, industry chatter suggests Marvel Studios is preparing a broader cast announcement for that occasion, likely to build on the momentum from Weaving’s reported casting and Sink’s live-action debut as Jean Grey.

Until then, fans are piecing together the roster from rumors and insider information, with the complete picture expected to emerge soon.
