‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Star Tom Holland Reveals Marvel’s Secret Plan for Miles Morales
Miles Morales has long been one of the most sought-after characters for fans eager to see him transition from comics and animation to live-action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With his standout role in Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy and his immense popularity in video games, his absence from live-action has become increasingly noticeable.
Tom Holland has been hinting at this eventual crossover for several months, gradually providing more details about his involvement in bringing the character to the MCU. What began as vague hopes has transformed into something much more substantial as ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ makes its rounds in the press.
Recently, Holland confirmed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Marvel Studios and Sony have been diligently crafting a comprehensive plan to introduce Miles Morales and eventually pass on the Spider-Man mantle. This initiative has reportedly been in the works since ‘No Way Home’ concluded in 2021.
During his conversation with host Josh Horowitz, Holland shared that the plan has been in place for years and will continue to evolve. He expressed genuine excitement whenever discussions about passing the baton arise.
This timeline aligns with earlier comments Holland made during the film’s promotional activities. In an interview with Hobby Consolas, he mentioned that the studios are open to exploring future possibilities, emphasizing his strong desire to see Miles Morales integrated into the universe and his active role in making it happen.
Holland’s commitment to this idea is partly rooted in his own journey within the franchise. He credits Robert Downey Jr. for guiding him into the MCU when he first appeared as Peter Parker in 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ He aims to provide similar mentorship to whoever ultimately takes on the role, whether that be Miles Morales or another character.
However, there is a significant hurdle between Holland’s enthusiasm and an actual on-screen appearance. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously indicated that Sony’s corporate leadership has instructed Marvel to delay the introduction of a live-action Miles Morales until the animated Spider-Verse trilogy concludes.

This constraint creates a natural timeline considering Sony’s release schedule. With ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ set for release on June 18, 2027, some reports suggest that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ could be a potential platform for Miles once the animated trilogy wraps up, although neither studio has officially confirmed this.
Holland’s contract situation adds another layer of complexity to the timing. Reports vary on whether his current deal extends through his obligations for ‘Secret Wars’ in 2027 or covers a full second trilogy beginning with ‘Brand New Day.’ Regardless, his repeated public remarks about legacy and succession indicate that this topic is very much on his mind.
For a franchise that has teased the idea for years without much concrete action, Holland’s recent comments provide the clearest indication yet that something is genuinely underway behind the scenes. Whether this plan brings Miles Morales to the big screen in the next Avengers film or further down the line, fans finally have a reason to believe that their wait might be worthwhile.
