‘The Inbetweeners’ Reunion Movie With Original Cast in Development at Netflix
Netflix is set to revive one of the most beloved British comedy franchises from the late 2000s. As reported by Variety, The Inbetweeners is officially making a comeback with a reunion movie currently in the works, featuring the original main cast.
Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison, and James Buckley are all expected to reprise their roles as Will, Simon, Neil, and Jay, the four friends known for their awkward school experiences, poor choices, and hilarious banter. However, Variety notes that final agreements with the actors have yet to be finalized.
This announcement marks a significant return for a series that became a cornerstone of British comedy culture. Originally airing on E4 from 2008 to 2010, The Inbetweeners chronicled the lives of teenagers navigating school, friendships, and the challenges of growing up.
The show centered around Will MacKenzie, portrayed by Simon Bird, a bright but socially inept student who teams up with Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland, and Jay Cartwright. Together, they faced embarrassing moments, unsuccessful romantic endeavors, and the everyday trials of teenage life.
Unlike many teen shows of its time, The Inbetweeners gained popularity for its raw and realistic portrayal of adolescence. The series was celebrated for its crude humor, awkward scenarios, and the characters’ constant entanglements in absurd situations.
Following the conclusion of the original series, the franchise expanded with two successful films. The first movie, released in 2011, became a box office sensation, setting a record for the highest opening weekend for a British comedy at that time. The sequel, released in 2014, also performed well in theaters.
The revival comes after rights holders Banijay U.K. announced in 2025 that they had reached an agreement with creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, along with their production company Fudge Park Productions, to bring The Inbetweeners back.
While fans were aware that the comedy would return, the specific format of the comeback remained a mystery. Now, it appears that Netflix will serve as the platform for the next chapter of the franchise.
Morris and Beesley previously expressed their enthusiasm about continuing the story, stating, “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).”

Details about the movie’s plot remain under wraps, leaving fans curious about the characters’ circumstances when they return. There is also anticipation regarding whether the reunion will pick up directly after the previous films or explore the characters as adults.
While Netflix has yet to officially comment on the project, the return of the original cast has already sparked excitement among longtime fans who grew up with the series.
Nearly two decades after The Inbetweeners first debuted, the franchise is gearing up to bring back the same unforgettable characters. If the reunion movie captures the same awkward humor and chaotic energy that made the original series a success, it could become one of the biggest comedy comebacks in recent years.
