Movie transformations have become an integral part of blockbuster marketing, with fans eagerly tracking every visible muscle and six-pack as evidence of a film’s development. The upcoming ‘Highlander’ reboot is no exception, generating excitement for months as its impressive ensemble cast gears up for a tale filled with swordplay, immortality, and classic action.

Leading the cast is Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod, a role originally made famous by Christopher Lambert. His well-documented commitment to physical transformation has set a high standard for his co-stars, and it seems that pressure is yielding results, as evidenced by the latest sneak peek into the film’s cast getting into fighting shape together.

Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre recently shared new gym photos featuring himself alongside Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe, both flexing their muscles in matching black tank tops. McIntyre posted the image on X with the caption “Gladiator x Warrior,” tagging Crowe directly. In the snapshot, the two are seen posing in a gym, showcasing their impressive physical conditioning.

The caption cleverly nods to both men’s most iconic roles, referencing Crowe’s legendary character Maximus in ‘Gladiator’ alongside McIntyre’s WWE persona, “The Scottish Warrior.” McIntyre shared the photo while the two were filming in Spain for their other collaborative project, ‘The Last Druid.’

Fans online had plenty to say about this dynamic duo. One commenter expressed delight at seeing “my favorite wrestler and one of my favorite actors working out together,” while another simply remarked, “Goat getting those gains.” These reactions highlight the growing anticipation surrounding both projects, even before any official footage has been released.

Crowe’s involvement in ‘Highlander’ has been closely followed by fans since he joined the film. He portrays Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, the immortal mentor role originally made iconic by Sean Connery in the 1986 classic, opposite Cavill’s Connor MacLeod. The two actors previously shared the screen in ‘Man of Steel,’ where Crowe played a warrior version of Jor-El, Superman’s father.

McIntyre’s casting completes a lineup that has been gradually assembling. He plays Angus, Connor MacLeod’s brother, joining a cast that features Dave Bautista as The Kurgan, Karen Gillan, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang.

The ‘Highlander’ remake has faced a notoriously rocky path to production. Filming was delayed after Cavill suffered an injury during pre-production training, pushing the start of shooting into early 2026. Chad Stahelski, known for directing the ‘John Wick’ franchise, is at the helm, bringing his reputation for hands-on, physically demanding action filmmaking to the project.

McIntyre and Crowe’s on-screen collaboration doesn’t end with ‘Highlander.’ The two are also set to star together in the historical action drama ‘The Last Druid,’ directed by William Eubank. The film revolves around a Roman Emperor who discovers a hidden Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia.

McIntyre’s acting career has gained momentum since he stepped away from WWE following a loss to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42. He wrapped filming on ‘Highlander’ in Scotland before moving on to ‘The Last Druid.’ For a performer once defined solely by the wrestling ring, the gym photo with Crowe signifies just how far his Hollywood transition has come.
