New Behind-The-Scenes Footage Reveals How ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Created Its New York
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has already broken box office records since its release, yet fans are still eager for more behind-the-scenes content from the production. Fresh footage has emerged online in the weeks following the film’s debut, showcasing the extensive effort that went into crafting an authentic version of New York City.
The latest clip circulating comes from Instagram user n8thankim, featuring a bustling street scene filled with extras, storefronts, and even a dog wandering through the frame. This candid, unrefined footage offers fans a unique perspective compared to the polished trailers and posters released by Sony and Marvel ahead of the film’s premiere.
Such footage is significant, considering that much of ‘Brand New Day’ was filmed thousands of miles away from the city it portrays. As Tom Holland confirmed, the majority of the production occurred in the UK, utilizing London’s Pinewood Studios and the streets of Glasgow, Scotland, to replicate the look and feel of Manhattan.
Glasgow’s transformation into a stand-in for New York required significant commitment from local authorities and the production team. More than fifty roads across the city were closed for at least two weeks to facilitate filming, complete with yellow New York-style taxis, American police cars, and even a tank rolling through the streets to enhance the illusion for cast, crew, and curious onlookers.
The extensive location work was crucial for enabling scenes like the film’s iconic tank sequence. Sony previously released an official “Day One” behind-the-scenes vignette featuring Holland suiting up and performing a high-wire stunt atop a military vehicle speeding down a Glasgow street, with the actor exclaiming that it “felt sick” once the take was completed.
In addition to the major stunt sequences, many smaller street-level moments, like those captured in this recent clip, required meticulous staging to convincingly portray the New York setting. Crowds of extras, dressed and directed to emulate the energy of a real Manhattan sidewalk, played a crucial role in grounding the film’s more realistic, street-level tone.
This grounded approach extended beyond the setting itself. Behind-the-scenes images have also surfaced, illustrating the lengths the production went to recreate iconic imagery from the comics, including a sequence centered around Spider-Man’s classic battle with Tarantula, which necessitated stunt performers in body stockings to physically support the villain during filming.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton, who has taken over the franchise from Jon Watts, has embraced this practical filmmaking style throughout the production, blending real sets and street closures with visual effects to maintain authenticity. This approach seems to resonate with both critics and audiences, as evidenced by the film’s record-breaking opening weekend performance.

With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continuing to dominate discussions weeks after its release, it’s evident that fans are eager for every piece of footage that reveals how the film’s world was constructed. Between official featurettes and candid clips like this latest one, the picture of the immense effort that went into building this version of New York becomes increasingly clear.
