‘Furious‘ has effectively tightened the psychological tension between FBI agent Alice Black and the cunning serial killer she pursues in its first four episodes. Episode five elevates this dynamic to a perilous new level. Hulu’s crime thriller, created by Elizabeth Meriwether and featuring Emmy Rossum, intricately weaves a narrative around two women navigating the same violent history from opposing sides of the law.

The previous episode unveiled how deeply Alice’s own trauma influences her increasingly reckless actions as she and her partner Danny uncover new links between Isabel, Catherine, and a murdered trafficker named Adrian Murado. This episode also showcased Catherine’s desperate kidnapping of Hal, the Easton family’s lawyer, in a bid to extract answers about Isabel’s death. Meanwhile, Alice learned that her supervisor Nora and former colleague Ed George had both been quietly involved in the original investigation before Nora abruptly removed her from the case.

Episode five, titled “Pick a Sticker,” picks up immediately following that kidnapping. After abducting Hal, Catherine takes him to the home of Alden Drummings, a wheelchair-bound figure connected to the broader conspiracy Alice has been unraveling. The situation escalates rapidly, culminating in Hal’s death, while Alden is left alive and seemingly poised to take the blame for the events that transpired in his home.

Back at the FBI, Hal’s death ignites chaos within the office, with colleagues expressing outrage at Marshall for actions that Nora and Ed fear will only attract unwanted attention to a cold case they’ve been trying to keep under wraps. This institutional panic highlights that the show’s central mystery extends beyond Catherine’s personal vendetta, revealing a wider network of individuals actively working to suppress the truth.

As the fallout from Hal’s death engulfs the bureau, Alice continues her investigation largely on her own initiative, undeterred by Nora’s earlier attempt to sideline her. She discovers that Catherine was previously identified as the mysterious “woman in the picture” after another nurse at Alden’s home made a 911 call, further connecting Catherine to the location.

Alice also delves deeper into Isabel’s pregnancy, formulating a theory that the hospital bracelet found earlier may be linked to a Safe Surrender baby box. She privately shares this theory with Nora, sensing there’s a specific reason her supervisor has been keeping her at a distance from the case, even if she doesn’t fully grasp why.

The episode’s concluding moments deliver its most significant twist yet. Following her Safe Surrender theory, Alice visits one of the designated locations to investigate further, only to encounter the very woman she’s been pursuing: Catherine herself.

This direct confrontation signifies a major turning point for the series, closing the gap between its two central figures after five episodes of near-misses and indirect clues. With Danny and Choi also arriving at Alden’s house to uncover the aftermath of Hal’s death elsewhere in the episode, “Pick a Sticker” leaves multiple storylines converging as the season approaches its climax.

With three episodes remaining before the season finale on August 31, ‘Furious’ seems to be racing toward a direct confrontation between Alice and Catherine that has felt inevitable since the show’s inception. Now that the two women have finally crossed paths, the question looms: what will happen next, and does Alice fully comprehend the danger she’s stepping into?
