Marvel Studios has been quietly building momentum for its ‘X-Men‘ reboot, gradually confirming key cast members while leaving some roles still shrouded in mystery. With Kit Connor as Cyclops, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost confirmed, fans are gaining a clearer view of Jake Schreier’s vision, even as critical roles remain unfilled.

The role of Beast has generated the most buzz. Charles Melton, known for his performance in ‘Beef’, was seen as the frontrunner for Hank McCoy just weeks ago, with various insiders suggesting that his deal was nearly finalized ahead of Disney’s D23 event.

However, Melton is “reportedly still in talks” for the role, with sources indicating that the negotiations are not as settled as many had assumed, primarily due to compensation issues.

This update comes after a whirlwind 48 hours filled with conflicting casting reports. Industry insider Daniel Richtman hinted through various channels that Melton had declined the role, a claim that quickly circulated on social media, raising doubts about whether Marvel’s complete ‘X-Men’ lineup would be ready for D23.

The confusion stems from differing reports regarding Melton’s status. MyTimeToShineHello had previously stated that Melton’s deal was finalized, while journalist Jeff Sneider’s newsletter, The InSneider, suggested he was still among several actors auditioning for the role, including ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ star Peter Claffey.

Richtman later clarified that his information about Melton was shared privately and not fully confirmed, adding that Cailee Spaeny’s rumored casting as Rogue is also still unresolved. This clarification leaves room for the latest claim that discussions with Melton are ongoing but complicated by contract terms.

Melton has remained tight-lipped on the matter. In a July interview promoting Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘Her Private Hell,’ he was directly asked about the Beast rumors and humorously claimed he didn’t know who the director was, despite having collaborated with Schreier on ‘Beef’ Season 2. He did express interest in the role without confirming any deal.

In addition to Beast and Rogue, several other significant roles are still up in the air. Actors like Christopher Abbott, Tom Pelphrey, Bill Skarsgård, Will Poulter, and Harris Dickinson have been mentioned for Professor X, while Adam Driver is rumored to be in talks for an unspecified villain role potentially linked to Mister Sinister or Sebastian Shaw.

None of these castings, including Melton’s, have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios or Disney. The studio has not publicly addressed the negotiation reports, and Melton has not commented on the latest updates regarding his stalled deal.

The timing is crucial. Marvel had aimed to reveal its complete ‘X-Men’ cast at D23, using the panel to generate excitement for a project expected to be a major post-‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ tentpole. If negotiations for Beast are genuinely stalled over financial issues, that announcement could be delayed or might lack a key character.

For a franchise reboot this highly anticipated, every unresolved role becomes a topic of discussion, and Beast has proven to be the most unpredictable of them all. Whether Melton ultimately joins the cast or Marvel turns to another actor, the character remains one of the most scrutinized elements of the upcoming project.
