Sisters who collaborate in Hollywood don’t always see eye to eye, and for Dakota and Elle Fanning, this reality emerged after years of sidestepping it. The two actresses have been asked for ages when they would finally share the screen, a question that lingered over their separate yet celebrated careers that never quite aligned.

That wait has come to an end with ‘The Nightingale,’ the highly anticipated adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s bestselling World War II novel. This film marks the first time the sisters will act alongside each other, rather than portraying the same character at different ages. Both Dakota and Elle have expressed a mix of excitement and nerves as they prepared to work together on camera, given their deep familiarity and history.

Recently, Dakota Fanning shared that they almost completed the entire production without any sisterly disagreements, until one finally occurred. During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ Dakota recounted the first and only real fight she and Elle had while filming, which left the crew in stitches.

According to Dakota, the spat happened near the end of production while they were filming in an uncomfortably warm room. She recalled sitting on a couch with Elle and asking her to move her leg, only for Elle to insist it had been there all day. Dakota snapped back, saying she was too hot and didn’t want her sister sweating on her.

The exchange escalated briefly before Dakota told Elle to stop talking, marking what she humorously referred to as their only fight during the shoot. The crew found the moment particularly amusing, especially since the sisters had managed to maintain professionalism up until that point.

This minor conflict wasn’t entirely unexpected, given how candid both sisters have been about their nerves leading into their first true collaboration. Dakota previously admitted that both were silently anxious about acting opposite each other, as working with someone who knows you best can create unique pressures, even for seasoned performers like the Fannings.

They also established some lighthearted ground rules before filming began, with Elle joking on the red carpet that Dakota had promised not to boss her around during production. Dakota responded with a laugh, suggesting that Elle should just avoid annoying her too much.

‘The Nightingale’ follows the story of two sisters navigating perilous paths in German-occupied France during World War II, with Dakota portraying Vianne and Elle as Isabelle. Directed by Michael Morris, the film is set to be released on March 19, strategically positioned against ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ in theaters.

Both sisters view this project as a long-awaited chance to merge their talents on screen, having previously only acted as the same character at different life stages. Given the anticipation surrounding their collaboration, one brief disagreement over a hot room and an immovable leg seems a small price to pay for finally achieving this milestone.
