‘Thunderbolts*‘ has introduced viewers to a team of morally ambiguous former villains turned reluctant heroes. The film’s success has opened up possibilities for Marvel Studios to further expand this ensemble in surprising ways. As the team integrates into the larger Multiverse Saga, speculation continues to grow about who might join Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s eclectic group of misfits next.

This speculation has been building for months, with industry insider Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus previously sharing insights about the Thunderbolts’ trajectory following ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars.’ Perez has characterized Valentina as someone who enjoys gathering super-powered individuals and mercenaries, often setting them against one another for her own purposes, which leaves ample opportunity for new members to join the team.

In his latest August Q&A, Perez provided fresh details on potential candidates Marvel might be considering. He mentioned ideas circulating internally about revamping Taskmaster’s technology to create a new version of the character, along with the inclusion of Abomination and Melissa Gold, while also suggesting Bullseye as a possible addition to the lineup.

Perez emphasized that these ideas are still in the brainstorming phase rather than confirmed plans, indicating that much of what he shared consists of concepts being discussed rather than finalized decisions. Nevertheless, the specific names mentioned give a clearer insight into Marvel’s internal discussions regarding the team’s future.

Each character mentioned has significant connections to the Thunderbolts in Marvel Comics. Abomination, portrayed by Tim Roth, has appeared in the MCU across various projects, including a redemption arc in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ after his initial rampage in ‘The Incredible Hulk.’ This makes him a fitting candidate for a team centered around morally complex former villains seeking a second chance.

Melissa Gold, known in the comics as Songbird, is a founding member of Baron Zemo’s original Thunderbolts lineup who ultimately chose heroism over villainy alongside her teammates. Fans have speculated that Geraldine Viswanathan’s character Mel, Valentina’s assistant introduced in ‘Thunderbolts*,’ could eventually be revealed as Melissa Gold herself, making her transition onto the team a smooth one.

Bullseye is another character already established in the MCU through Wilson Bethel’s portrayal in ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ Perez has indicated that Bullseye will continue to play a role in the show’s second season. He has suggested that Bullseye may eventually clash with Bucky Barnes within the Thunderbolts dynamic, hinting at crossover potential between the character’s storyline in Daredevil and the broader Thunderbolts roster.

While none of these potential additions have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, Perez’s insights remain speculative rather than definitive casting or story details. However, given Valentina’s character has been built around assembling unpredictable, morally ambiguous teams, the idea of incorporating Abomination, a revamped Songbird, and Bullseye aligns well with the tone established for the franchise.

For fans who appreciate Marvel’s exploration of complex, antiheroic team dynamics through the Thunderbolts, these potential additions indicate that the studio is far from finished expanding this intriguing corner of the MCU.
