Marvel Studios has been hinting at the next chapter of the WandaVision universe for years, and fans are on the brink of receiving solid details. ‘VisionQuest,’ the third part of the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued through ‘Agatha All Along,’ is set to debut on Disney+ on October 14. The series follows Paul Bettany’s White Vision as he seeks to understand his identity and purpose after the events of ‘WandaVision.’

This quest promises to become even more complex within Vision’s own mind. Bettany has previously shared that the show will delve into the intricacies of Vision’s internal world, revealing that he has been saving, copying, and pasting various AI personalities in his head, including one that is kept behind a strong firewall due to its psychopathic tendencies, likely referring to Ultron.

At Disney’s D23 Expo, Marvel provided fans with their most comprehensive look at the series yet, and one piece of concept art has sparked significant speculation. Alongside a display featuring White Vision’s upgraded suit, photos from the exhibition floor showcase artwork of a mysterious figure engulfed in flames, positioned at the center of what appears to be a burning room or town.

This imagery has ignited speculation among fans and media that the fiery figure could symbolize Jim Hammond, Marvel’s original android Human Torch, finally making his debut in the MCU. Created by Professor Phineas T. Horton in the comics and first appearing in 1939’s Marvel Comics #1, Hammond was a member of the Invaders during World War II. Close inspection of the concept art’s chest and shoulder details reportedly resembles the costume Hammond wore in his later comic appearances.

The theory gains momentum considering how integral android and AI characters are to ‘VisionQuest’s’ narrative. The series also features Emily Hampshire as a human version of E.D.I.T.H., the technology originally developed by Tony Stark and later passed to Peter Parker after Iron Man’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ This reinforces the show’s emphasis on synthetic and artificial intelligence characters throughout its storyline.

Created by Terry Matalas, ‘VisionQuest’ stars Bettany alongside James Spader reprising Ultron, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, and Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff. The White Vision suit displayed at D23 closely mirrors the character’s original look from ‘WandaVision,’ with subtle white-gold accents added to the chestpiece to match highlights across the belt, boots, and gauntlets, suggesting that the character retains his post-WandaVision appearance for at least part of the new series.

While Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the identity of the fiery figure, the speculation surrounding the Human Torch remains strong. Fans are particularly intrigued by how closely the character’s design in the concept art aligns with Hammond’s comic book appearance, making it one of the most captivating reveals from the D23 event.

If confirmed, Jim Hammond’s arrival would significantly expand Marvel’s mythology, connecting the MCU to some of the earliest characters in Marvel Comics history nearly nine decades after his original debut. Given ‘VisionQuest’s’ focus on AI, memory, and synthetic identity, a character with such complex origins would seamlessly fit within the show’s overarching themes.

With the series set to premiere in just two months and Marvel likely to unveil more details throughout the remainder of the D23 weekend, fans won’t have to wait long to discover whether this fiery tease truly signifies the long-anticipated arrival of the original Human Torch in the MCU.
