Tom Holland’s latest portrayal of the web-slinger has been rewriting box office records since its release, and the momentum shows no signs of slowing down even three weekends in. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ debuted with the largest opening weekend ever and has been climbing the all-time domestic charts at an unprecedented pace, drawing comparisons to some of the most iconic theatrical runs in history.

This impressive ascent has been fueled by consistently strong box office holds week after week, keeping the film in the spotlight as other titles have come and gone. By its second Thursday, the film had already grossed $715.9 million domestically, surpassing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ by nearly $57 million at the same point in its historic run.

This weekend marked a significant achievement as ‘Brand New Day’ officially overtook ‘Top Gun: Maverick’s’ $721.9 million domestic total on its third Friday, according to Deadline, securing the fifth position on the all-time list of highest-grossing films in North American box office history. The film’s third weekend earnings were approximately $67 million, reflecting a 54% drop from the previous weekend, bringing its cumulative domestic total to $782.8 million after just 15 days in theaters.

The performance on that Friday alone set a new record, with the film’s approximate $19 million single-day total marking the highest non-holiday third Friday ever recorded at the domestic box office. This figure surpassed both ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ $16.2 million third Friday and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s’ $15.6 million from their respective runs, despite ‘Brand New Day’ experiencing a steeper 55.6% drop from the previous Friday.

With ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ now pushed down the rankings, only four films remain ahead of ‘Brand New Day’ on the all-time domestic list: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $936.6 million, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $858.3 million, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ at $814.8 million, and ‘Avatar’ at $785.2 million. Given the film’s current trajectory, industry estimates suggest ‘Brand New Day’ could surpass ‘Avatar’ as soon as this Sunday or Monday, putting it within approximately $32 million of overtaking ‘No Way Home’ shortly thereafter.

This upward trend has sparked speculation about how high the film could ultimately go. Some estimates now predict ‘Brand New Day’s’ eventual domestic total could fall between $910 million and $960 million, a range that would make it only the second film in history to cross the $900 million mark domestically, and would place it within striking distance of ‘The Force Awakens’s’ eleven-year-old record.

The film’s international performance has been equally impressive, with its overseas total already exceeding ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to become Sony’s biggest release ever outside North America. Coupled with its record-setting domestic pace, ‘Brand New Day’ has become the fastest film to reach the $700 million domestic milestone, breaking a record previously held by ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘Endgame,’ both of which took 16 days to reach that same benchmark.

With a fourth weekend still ahead and no indications of the film’s momentum waning, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is poised to become one of the biggest box office stories in recent memory. Between its domestic ascent and record international earnings, the film has already secured a lasting place in box office history, regardless of where its final numbers ultimately land.
