Everything Fans Need To Know About ‘My Adventures with Superman’ Season 4
‘My Adventures with Superman‘ has just concluded its third season on Adult Swim, leaving fans with more questions than answers. This anime-inspired take on Clark Kent and his found family has emerged as one of the network’s standout hits, yet the future of the series beyond Season 3 remains uncertain.
This ambiguity is particularly frustrating given the show’s impressive performance. Season 3 reportedly achieved its highest viewership to date, making the lack of news regarding a potential Season 4 even more painful for a dedicated fanbase that has already endured a lengthy hiatus.
Showrunner Jake Wyatt directly addressed the pressing issue on social media before the Season 3 finale, confirming that ‘My Adventures with Superman’ has not yet received a renewal for a fourth season. He noted that while viewership has been strong, the show has not been picked up yet.

Wyatt emphasized that the delay does not indicate a lack of enthusiasm from anyone involved. He explained that stakeholders, including DC Studios, Adult Swim, and HBO Max, have all shown support for the show, but each entity must navigate its own future in a challenging and unpredictable environment, which takes time.
This isn’t the first time the creative team has had to temper expectations. During the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, showrunners Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher confirmed that the Adult Swim series had not yet been renewed for a fourth season. They mentioned that a renewal could still be announced before or shortly after the conclusion of Season 3, but nothing was finalized at that time.
Part of the delay stems from the decision-making process. Cartoon Network President Michael Ouweleen told Collider that he was unsure about the status of Season 4, as the project began before Peter Safran and James Gunn joined DC Studios and now requires their approval. Ouweleen noted that Gunn and Safran had reviewed the show, found it satisfactory, and encouraged the team to continue, but the ultimate decision lies with them.
This sentiment was reiterated recently. In a conversation with Collider at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Ouweleen confirmed that Adult Swim is still in the dark regarding the show’s future, which is now dependent on Gunn and Safran’s input.
The situation is further complicated by the show’s integration into DC Studios’ broader plans. Since ‘My Adventures with Superman’ is a preexisting project being incorporated into DC Studios’ larger slate, its continuation is not guaranteed, especially with the impending Paramount and Warner Bros. merger that could disrupt individual projects even more.
It’s a perplexing position for a series that has garnered praise from both critics and fans. The show has spent three seasons developing an anime-inspired niche within the DC universe, and canceling it now would leave numerous storylines unresolved.
Season 3 put Clark Kent through challenges that previous seasons had not explored. The finale, titled ‘The Return,’ came after a tumultuous season where Clark lost his powers and faced a devastating defeat at the hands of Brainiac. The episode intertwined multiple storylines, beginning with a corrupted Bizarro still battling Brainiac’s drones before Clark intervened to protect the machines and calm Bizarro.
This pivotal moment had significant implications for the show’s mythology. Clark’s choice to prioritize protection over aggression led Brainiac to recognize that Superman’s true strength lies in compassion rather than brute force, ultimately accepting Clark as Krypton’s rightful heir. Meanwhile, the Eradicator wreaked havoc in Metropolis, clashing with Jonathan, Lara, and Kara before commandeering a fleet of Kryptonian bots seized by Amanda Waller.
Critics have generally responded positively to the season’s progression, despite some choices not resonating perfectly. One review highlighted that the finale lived up to the epic buildup, although the narrative shift midway through the season slowed the pacing in the latter episodes. Another outlet praised the season’s anime-inspired fight sequences and animation as the best the show has ever showcased, with a midseason episode feeling grand enough to serve as a finale in its own right.
With the introduction of Superboy and Brainiac’s evolving allegiance now part of the narrative, there’s clearly a wealth of story left to explore if Season 4 is greenlit.
Even with the flagship show’s fate uncertain, the animated segment of DC Studios is not going silent. A new Adult Swim spinoff centered on another DC hero, ‘My Adventures With Green Lantern,’ is already in development. This spinoff will focus on Jessica Cruz’s journey as she receives a power ring, with the character having made her first appearance in Season 3 before acquiring the ring, and Moana star Auliʻi Cravalho confirmed to voice her.
A release window has yet to be established, and no premiere date has been announced for the spinoff. However, it would be logical for it to debut alongside a new season of the flagship show, should that come to fruition.
For now, fans are left to piece together information from panels, social media updates, and festival interviews in lieu of an official announcement. Given the vocal demand from this fanbase for more adventures in Metropolis, it seems unlikely that DC Studios will allow this segment of the universe to remain dormant for long.
What do you think Gunn and Safran should do with Clark, Lois, and the rest of the Superfamily now that ‘The Return’ has wrapped up Season 3 on such a dramatic cliffhanger?
