This reading list was shared alongside a poolside photo of Weaving flipping through a stack of comics, playfully captioned “Don’t read into it.” The titles she’s currently exploring include Emma Frost’s original 2003 solo series, 2025’s ‘Emma Frost: The White Queen’ issue #3, ‘Astonishing X-Men’ #13 from 2004, and ‘X-Men: Hellfire Galas’ from 2025.

These selections are not random. Together, the four comics chart Emma’s journey from her early days as a supervillain to her eventual role as one of the X-Men’s most intricate and powerful members, providing Weaving with a solid foundation to develop the character.

‘Emma Frost: The White Queen,’ the latest title on Weaving’s list, is a five-issue limited series penned by Amy Chu with art by Andrea Di Vito, released in the latter half of 2025. Marvel describes the story as taking place during Emma’s tenure as the ruthless White Queen of the Hellfire Club, chronicling her power struggles within the Inner Circle while she seeks to uncover a mole leaking secrets to the X-Men.

Chu has characterized the project as a showcase of “BAD Emma Frost,” designed as an action thriller reminiscent of classic spy fiction, featuring Emma traveling the world to eliminate threats against her. This portrayal aligns closely with the version of Emma many fans anticipate seeing in the new film, reflecting her comic-book origins as a villain before she allied with the X-Men.

Emma’s original 2003 solo series provides Weaving with insight into an earlier effort to highlight the character independently, offering context on how different writers have shaped her voice and psychology over the years. ‘Astonishing X-Men’ #13, released in 2004, is part of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s acclaimed run, recognized as one of the standout X-Men stories of the 2000s and a pivotal moment in Emma’s shift toward heroism.

‘X-Men: Hellfire Galas,’ the most recent title from 2025, connects to the glamorous, high-society aspects of the Hellfire Club that have been central to Emma’s identity throughout her history. Collectively, these titles indicate that Weaving is constructing her performance by exploring both Emma’s villainous origins and her subsequent evolution, rather than focusing solely on one facet of the character.

As Marvel Studios continues to develop its ‘X-Men’ reboot, set for a May 5, 2028 release, Weaving’s reading list offers fans their clearest insight yet into her serious approach to one of the franchise’s most iconic roles. With a deep dive into her villainous past and exploration of her more heroic later chapters, it’s evident that Weaving is thoroughly examining every aspect of Emma’s complex history.
