Letitia Wright’s journey back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been anything but short, and her recent remarks reveal that returning holds a different significance this time. After shouldering the entire franchise in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Wright is now stepping into one of Marvel’s most ambitious ensemble films to date.

That film is ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which reunites Wright with a cast that spans three cinematic eras of Marvel storytelling. With the Avengers, the Thunderbolts turned New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men all involved, this movie is shaping up to be a monumental crossover event.

In an interview with Flip Your Wig, Wright reflected on her return to a franchise she has been part of since 2018. She described the production as an ensemble of greatness and expressed genuine excitement about being included, especially since her previous roles in Avengers films were relatively minor.

This time, however, Wright feels that has changed. She noted that she has, in her words, a little bit more to do compared to her earlier appearances, which aligns with her expanded role as the MCU’s new Black Panther following Chadwick Boseman’s passing and the character evolution that concluded ‘Wakanda Forever.’

While Wright was tight-lipped about plot specifics, she remained cryptic when asked about the persistent fan theory regarding T’Challa Jr. possibly appearing as a second Black Panther. She confirmed she had just wrapped filming for the day and was enjoying her time on set.

This kind of enthusiastic secrecy has been a consistent theme for Wright throughout the film’s production. In a separate comment about her experience on ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ she even humorously mixed it up with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ the sequel currently in development, joking about how easily the two productions blur together due to her extensive filming schedule.

Despite the confidentiality, Wright has shared glimpses into her preparation process. She previously posted a photo referencing the 2010 comic storyline ‘Doomwar,’ where Shuri, as Black Panther, confronts a version of Doctor Doom during his invasion of Wakanda. While it remains unconfirmed if the film will draw directly from that storyline, the reference has certainly sparked fan speculation.

Wright’s connection to the Black Panther mantle has significantly evolved since she first entered the MCU. Initially not a comic book reader, she has since described carrying the Black Panther legacy as an honor and expressed her excitement about audiences witnessing Shuri’s growth in future films.

This growth is pivotal to why ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ feels like such a significant moment for her character. After debuting in a small yet crucial role in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and making a brief appearance in ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Wright’s Shuri has transitioned from a supporting character to a central figure with substantial narrative weight in Marvel’s next major crossover.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ features a sprawling cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside stars like Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, and returning X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. With such a talented ensemble surrounding her, it’s no wonder Wright frequently uses the term ensemble to describe her experience.
