Inde Navarrette Reportedly Turned Down Major Films for Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Role
Inde Navarrette’s swift ascent from a promising television talent to one of Hollywood’s most watched young stars has taken a significant turn. After gaining recognition with the horror hit ‘Obsession,’ the actress has now secured a role in Marvel Studios’ eagerly awaited ‘X-Men’ reboot, steering her career in a new direction compared to earlier this summer.
Navarrette’s momentum has surged rapidly since her standout performance in ‘Obsession’ caught the attention of the industry. The film was a commercial success, and Navarrette began engaging with some of Hollywood’s top filmmakers, including Michael Mann and Jake Schreier, the director of Marvel’s new ‘X-Men’ movie.
Recent reports reveal just how pivotal the Marvel opportunity may have been for Navarrette’s career choices. According to Page Six, she was previously considered for a role in Michael Mann’s ‘Heat 2,’ but ultimately withdrew from consideration after committing to Marvel’s ‘X-Men.’ The report also indicates she turned down a horror project directed by Mattias Hoehne that would have earned her $2.5 million.
The ‘Heat 2’ connection is particularly noteworthy since Navarrette had already confirmed her meeting with Mann while he was assembling the cast for his long-awaited sequel. The project has since secured Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, with Bale portraying Vincent Hanna and DiCaprio taking on the role of Chris Shiherlis, characters originally played by Al Pacino and Val Kilmer.
Navarrette’s discussions with Mann coincided with her talks with Schreier, making these potential projects some of the most significant opportunities linked to her at that time. She had expressed interest in collaborating with both directors and indicated her openness to joining Marvel, even though neither project had been publicly confirmed as a casting decision then.
That uncertainty has since been resolved. Marvel officially announced Navarrette as Rogue during Disney’s D23 presentation, alongside a new cast of X-Men performers including Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister.
This casting marks a significant milestone for Navarrette, as Marvel’s reboot aims to introduce a new generation of mutant characters within the MCU. Reuters reported that the film is set for release in May 2028, with Jake Schreier directing and the newly announced ensemble poised to represent Marvel’s next major take on the X-Men following the franchise’s previous Fox era.
Navarrette’s journey to this opportunity has been remarkably swift. Before ‘Obsession,’ she was primarily known for her television roles in ‘Superman & Lois’ and ’13 Reasons Why,’ but her breakout performance has dramatically broadened the scope of projects being discussed around her. By July, reports were already highlighting her as an actress meeting with major filmmakers while Hollywood considered her potential fit in several high-profile productions.
Her decision also underscores the tough choices that can accompany a sudden career breakthrough. A role in a Michael Mann crime epic would have provided the prestige of collaborating with one of Hollywood’s most distinctive filmmakers, while the reported horror project offered a substantial $2.5 million payday; Marvel, on the other hand, presents the chance to become part of one of the industry’s largest long-term franchises. The fact that Navarrette ultimately chose to commit to ‘X-Men’ makes her decision even more intriguing now that her role as Rogue is official.
There is still much to learn about Rogue’s role in Marvel’s new mutant universe, including how prominently the character will feature and how the film will introduce her alongside the rest of the team. What is evident is that Navarrette has transitioned from a rising horror star to one of the faces of Marvel’s next X-Men era in an impressively short time.
