Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Breaks Box Office Records Again
Tom Holland has dedicated nearly a decade to establishing ‘Spider-Man’ as a formidable box office powerhouse, and this summer’s release has only solidified that status. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ faced the challenging task of following ‘No Way Home,’ a film propelled by nostalgia and multiverse excitement, yet it managed to surpass expectations.
The figures behind this success have been rising at an astonishing rate. What began as a record-breaking opening weekend has quickly turned into a series of milestones, each bringing the film closer to box office heights typically reserved for only a select few movies in history.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has outperformed ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ at the domestic box office, with reports indicating it is the fastest film to surpass $800 million, the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie, the top-grossing film of the 2020s, and the third highest-grossing film of all time. The film has already eclipsed ‘No Way Home’ globally, officially becoming the highest-grossing comic book movie of the decade and the biggest ‘Spider-Man’ film ever made, a milestone that has been in the making for weeks.
The domestic race has been particularly close in recent days. By its third Wednesday in theaters, ‘Brand New Day’ had reached $810.4 million domestically after 20 days of release, narrowing the gap to ‘No Way Home’s’ North American total of $814.86 million to just a few million dollars.
This ascent has been accompanied by a series of speed records. Sony Pictures confirmed that the film crossed $800 million domestically in only 19 days, making it the fastest movie to achieve this milestone, surpassing the previous record held by 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ which took 23 days.
The film’s global performance has been equally impressive. ‘Brand New Day’ surpassed $2 billion worldwide, becoming the eighth film in history to reach that milestone and exceeding ‘No Way Home’s’ $1.9 billion global total to become Sony’s highest-grossing release ever. It also joined the ranks of just four films to cross $800 million domestically, alongside ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and ‘No Way Home.’

Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s film opened with a bang and has maintained its momentum. It achieved the largest domestic opening weekend in box office history at $360 million and followed it up with the second-best third weekend ever recorded, trailing only ‘The Force Awakens.’ Starring Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, the film has remained at number one every weekend since its July 31 release.
Whether ‘Brand New Day’ will officially secure the number three all-time domestic spot, or even surpass ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘The Force Awakens,’ remains to be seen in the upcoming weeks. However, the film’s trajectory has left industry analysts increasingly confident that it will continue to break records. With Labor Day weekend approaching and demand showing no signs of slowing, Sony’s web-slinger seems set to keep climbing the all-time charts well into the fall.
