It has been nearly seven years since ‘Gotham’ concluded its five-season journey, yet David Mazouz, who portrayed a young Bruce Wayne, remains connected to the Batman universe. During his time on the Fox series, he garnered a dedicated fanbase by depicting Bruce’s evolution from the aftermath of his parents’ murder to his emergence as a masked vigilante.

Since ‘Gotham’ wrapped, Mazouz has ventured into theater, film, and producing, even graduating from Stanford in 2023. However, his ties to Gotham City’s iconic family endure, and he has expressed interest in a specific role within James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe.

In a recent interview with Love It Film, Mazouz discussed the possibility of returning to the Batman realm, this time as a member of the bat family. “I would love to be a member of the bat family,” he stated, revealing his aspiration to portray Damian Wayne, the current Robin, in Gunn’s DCU.

This isn’t the first time Mazouz has voiced his enthusiasm for the role. Back in 2017, while still playing a teenage Bruce on ‘Gotham,’ he shared fan art envisioning himself as Damian Wayne and encouraged fans to support the idea with the hashtag #davidfordamian. Damian, who was introduced in the DC canon in 1987’s ‘Batman: Son of the Demon’ and integrated into continuity in 2006, is the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, raised by the League of Assassins before becoming the fifth Robin.

Mazouz’s comments come at a time of increasing excitement surrounding the character in Gunn’s DCU. At DC’s Burbank event in January 2023, Gunn announced a Batman and Robin film titled ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ describing it as a father-son narrative focused on Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne. He noted that Damian is his favorite version of Robin, and the film will draw inspiration from Grant Morrison’s acclaimed Batman comic run from 2006 to 2013, marking the introduction of the Bat family in his new DCU.

Numerous fans and media outlets have speculated on potential actors to portray Damian, and Mazouz’s previous experience keeps him in the conversation. His portrayal of a young, conflicted Bruce Wayne on ‘Gotham’ has been cited as proof of his capability to embody a character marked by inner turmoil and intensity.

Whether Gunn and his team will seriously consider Mazouz for the role remains uncertain, especially since ‘The Brave and the Bold’ is still in its early stages of development with no cast announced. Nevertheless, for an actor who has long advocated for another opportunity in the Batman universe, his latest remarks indicate that his enthusiasm for the role remains strong.
