‘Reacher’ Star Agnez Mo Expresses Desire to Play Psylocke in Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot
Casting campaigns have become an integral part of the superhero movie landscape, with actors increasingly vocal about the roles they aspire to play. Recently, Marvel’s highly anticipated ‘X-Men’ reboot has seen a surge of such enthusiasm.
This trend continued over the weekend when rising star Agnez Mo, known for her breakout role as Lila Hoth in Season 4 of Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Reacher,’ expressed her interest in portraying one of the X-Men’s most iconic characters. Mo has garnered significant attention for her performance, marking her first major English-language project.
Building on her recent success, Mo enthusiastically responded to a fan-cast suggestion that she take on the role of Psylocke in Marvel’s upcoming ‘X-Men’ film. “I’m just gonna put it out to the universe… Psylocke,” she tweeted, tagging both Marvel Studios and Marvel’s official account.
Psylocke, whose real name is Betsy Braddock, has been portrayed on screen three times before: by Mei Melançon in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ Olivia Munn in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ and Aisha Hussein in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Munn’s portrayal received the most screen time and was often regarded as the most comic-accurate, yet fans have continued to advocate for a more significant role for the psychic mutant warrior in Marvel’s rebooted saga.
Mo’s swift rise in Hollywood has been largely attributed to her role in ‘Reacher.’ Despite this being her first major international project, both fans and critics have praised her performance, noting the depth and intensity she brought to a role that could have easily been overlooked.
Her enthusiastic response to the fan campaign has made her a prominent contender in the eyes of online fans, even without any official word from Marvel Studios. While Psylocke is not expected to appear in the first installment of Marvel’s rebooted ‘X-Men’ film, multiple X-related projects are reportedly in development, leaving room for speculation about when the character might make her MCU debut.
Mo’s public interest reflects a broader trend in the casting process for the ‘X-Men’ reboot. Several actors have openly expressed their desire for specific roles, including Keke Palmer, who has shown interest in playing Rogue, and Cynthia Erivo, who dreams of portraying Storm.
Confirmed roles at D23 include Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Sadie Sink reprising her role as Jean Grey. Director Jake Schreier continues to meet with actors interested in the project, indicating that the film’s full cast is still being finalized.
With key roles like Wolverine, Beast, and Magneto still unconfirmed, Mo’s public appeal could potentially lead to serious consideration for the part. For now, her enthusiastic response exemplifies how openly actors are campaigning for a chance to join Marvel’s next major superhero ensemble.
