‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Surpasses ‘Avengers: Endgame’ as Highest-Grossing MCU Film
Marvel’s most significant domestic box office record has remained unbroken for over five years, a milestone established during the franchise’s most emotionally impactful crossover event, which many believed would stand the test of time. That belief has now been completely overturned.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has been steadily ascending through Marvel’s box office ranks, shattering records at a pace that few blockbusters can maintain this far into their theatrical run. What began as a record-breaking opening weekend has now culminated in the film claiming the ultimate accolade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s domestic history.
‘Brand New Day’ has officially surpassed ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ $858 million domestic total, making it the highest-grossing MCU film ever released in the United States. The film achieved this milestone while maintaining the No. 1 position at the domestic box office for four consecutive weekends, even amidst fresh competition from fellow Sony release ‘Insidious: Out of the Further.’
The film’s ascent to the pinnacle of Marvel’s domestic charts began with an unprecedented opening weekend. ‘Brand New Day’ debuted to $360 million domestically, breaking the previous opening weekend record of $357.1 million set by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019, while also posting an impressive $932 million global opening.
This momentum continued through subsequent weekends at a pace few films ever achieve. The movie crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide in just six days and became the biggest film of the year within a week of its release, outpacing titles like ‘Toy Story 5’ and ‘The Odyssey.’ Its consistent weekend-over-weekend performance, rather than the steep declines typical of most blockbusters, ultimately enabled it to surpass ‘Endgame’s’ long-standing domestic record.
‘Brand New Day’ has also established itself as the second-biggest domestic release in box office history overall, trailing only ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ Rotten Tomatoes highlights the film’s critical consensus, praising its blend of spectacular set pieces, mature emotional stakes, and Tom Holland’s heartfelt performance, suggesting a promising future for the franchise.

Despite its new domestic title, ‘Brand New Day’ has yet to match ‘Endgame’s’ complete box office supremacy. Globally, ‘Endgame’ still holds the top spot in the MCU with a $2.7 billion worldwide total, a figure that ‘Brand New Day’ currently trails by about half a billion dollars.
Early projections indicate that ‘Brand New Day’ could ultimately finish its theatrical run between $2.5 and $2.7 billion worldwide, a number that would position it as the third-biggest film ever made, following ‘Endgame’ and ‘Avatar.’ However, both of those films benefited from theatrical re-releases over the years to bolster their final totals, a strategy that could also be applied to ‘Brand New Day’ given Marvel’s history of re-releasing its biggest hits.
The film’s success has coincided with an unusually strong overall period for the domestic box office. The same record-setting opening weekend that ‘Brand New Day’ achieved also contributed to the largest three-day domestic frame in box office history, a combined $429 million across all films in release, largely driven by ‘Brand New Day’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey.’
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and featuring Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, ‘Brand New Day’ continues to add to its totals with each passing weekend. With the film still performing well in theaters and Marvel’s history of extending box office runs through re-releases, its final numbers may not be finalized for some time.
