‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Star Iman Vellani Envisions Kamala Khan Teaming Up With Guardians

Iman Vellani has consistently embraced her role as Kamala Khan with the enthusiasm of a true fan, and her excitement has only intensified as the character’s presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow. Since her debut in her own Disney+ series, Kamala has transitioned from daydreams in her Jersey City bedroom to sharing the screen with Captain Marvel, and Vellani has been vocal about her hopes for Kamala’s future adventures.

This habit of wishlisting has become a hallmark of Vellani’s public persona. She has previously suggested that Kamala could cross paths with the Young Avengers and even proposed a hypothetical team-up with Red Guardian, framing her ideas as the enthusiastic musings of a lifelong comic reader rather than demands.

Her latest idea, however, takes Kamala in a much more cosmic direction. During an appearance on the Revenge Of! podcast, Vellani expressed her desire for Ms. Marvel to interact with the Guardians of the Galaxy within the MCU, stating, “I love the idea of Kamala in space… I love the Guardians [and] I think Kamala would be a really fun dynamic with them.”

This comment aligns with Vellani’s broader vision for the direction of Marvel Studios. When asked what changes she would make if she were in charge of the MCU, she surprisingly suggested doing “maybe less team-ups,” emphasizing that the franchise thrives when audiences connect with individual characters rather than being overwhelmed by large ensemble casts.

These comments may seem contradictory at first, but Vellani’s pitch for a Guardians team-up feels more like a character-driven pairing rather than a call for another massive crossover. It’s the kind of selective collaboration she believes the MCU should embrace.

Kamala’s journey in the MCU has already demonstrated how a character introduced in a more intimate setting can quickly become part of larger events. She transitioned from her personal Disney+ origin story to appearing in ‘The Marvels,’ and with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to premiere on December 18, featuring heroes from across the MCU, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men, Kamala’s future remains a focal point as Marvel enters its next phase.

Pairing her with the Guardians would also provide Kamala with a unique environment compared to her Earth-centric adventures. The Guardians’ irreverent, found-family dynamic could create a striking tonal contrast to the grounded, community-focused narratives that have characterized Kamala’s story, while allowing Vellani to explore the character’s cosmic curiosity that fans have been eager to see since ‘The Marvels’ took her into space.
