‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 Teaser Reveals Ella Purnell’s Killer Returns with Rising Body Count
Dark comedy thrillers rarely achieve the level of success that ‘Sweetpea‘ did upon its debut, transforming a quiet wallflower’s journey into murder into one of the most unexpectedly engaging character studies in recent television history. Ella Purnell’s portrayal of Rhiannon Lewis expertly navigated a challenging tonal balance, merging morbid humor with genuine emotional depth, leading to a strong audience response that made a second season feel inevitable almost immediately.
That inevitability is now coming to fruition. Sky and STARZ have officially released the first teaser trailer for ‘Sweetpea’ Season 2, offering fans their first glimpse of Purnell reprising her role as Rhiannon, following the explosive finale of the first season that left her relationship and her secrets in tatters.
The upcoming season picks up after those deadly events, with Rhiannon now managing a promotion at the Carnsham Gazette while grappling with an unexpected romantic involvement and, more critically, a copycat killer who threatens to reveal everything she has fought to conceal. As her body count continues to rise, Rhiannon must confront the chilling accusation made by her ex-boyfriend AJ before his death: was he right in labeling her a monster?
This central question adds a sharper psychological dimension to the new season, pushing Rhiannon beyond mere survival instincts and into a more uncomfortable confrontation with her identity. The teaser reportedly showcases Purnell stating, “Do you know what? I’m gonna live my truth!”, a line that encapsulates the show’s signature mix of dark comedy and unsettling self-awareness, even as her body count escalates.
Season 2 introduces several new characters into Rhiannon’s life. Rish Shah joins the cast as Gabriel, Rhiannon’s new romantic interest, while Tamsin Greig takes on the role of Liv, AJ’s mother, providing a direct emotional connection to the aftermath of his death. Taj Atwal joins as Freya, Rhiannon’s formidable new boss at the newspaper, and Jenny Walser rounds out the new cast as Daisy, an adoring friend who may complicate Rhiannon’s already delicate double life.
Returning cast members include Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, and Ingrid Oliver, providing familiar faces for fans as they navigate the season’s new mysteries. Behind the scenes, Selina Lim steps in as the lead writer for Season 2, collaborating with a writing team that includes Emme Hoy, Anna Jordan, and Laura Jayne Tunbridge, while Purnell continues her role as executive producer alongside Ella Jones and Kirstie Swain, who created and led the writers’ room in Season 1.

The series remains an adaptation of C.J. Skuse’s novel of the same name, produced by See-Saw Films and fanboy in association with Sky Studios. This creative background contributed to the first season’s strong reviews for its willingness to explore morally ambiguous territory rather than providing easy answers about who deserves sympathy in Rhiannon’s narrative.
‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 is set to premiere on Sky in the UK this November, with a STARZ launch following in early 2027. Given the first season’s strong resonance with both critics and audiences, there are high expectations that this new installment can further unravel Rhiannon’s story without sacrificing the dark humor that made her such a captivating antihero initially.
