Brad Pitt’s return to one of his most cherished roles has been in development for over a year, creating consistent excitement through a surprise Super Bowl teaser and a fluctuating production schedule. The highly awaited sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ has gone through multiple working titles since its initial announcement, and fans have been eagerly anticipating an official name.

That wait has finally concluded. Netflix has confirmed that the film will be titled “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” rebranding the project previously known as “The Adventures of Cliff Booth” as it approaches its release later this year. This announcement came with new insights into the film’s release strategy, providing fans with their clearest understanding yet of how the movie will be presented to audiences.

Pitt reprises his role as stunt double Cliff Booth, the character that earned him his first-ever acting Oscar in the 2019 original, which grossed $377 million worldwide and won two Academy Awards from ten nominations. This time, David Fincher takes over directing duties with a screenplay penned by Tarantino, marking the fourth collaboration between Pitt and Fincher following “Se7en,” “Fight Club,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Tarantino previously shared his reasoning for passing on directing duties instead of helming the sequel himself. In a discussion on the Church of Tarantino podcast, he expressed his love for the script but admitted he felt unenthusiastic about revisiting “the same ground I’ve already walked” for what he intends to be his final directorial project, a commitment he has maintained throughout his career.

The story advances to 1977, moving forward from the 1969 setting of the original film into a dramatically altered Hollywood landscape. This time jump follows the events of the first movie, which saw Booth and Rick Dalton, originally portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio, alter history by preventing the Manson family murders on the night they would have claimed Sharon Tate and several others.

Joining Pitt in the cast are Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, Karren Karagulian, Holt McCallany, and Timothy Olyphant, although DiCaprio is not expected to return as Dalton this time. Pitt and Ceán Chaffin produced the film alongside David Heyman and Stacey Sher through Plan B Entertainment and Heyday Films.

Netflix has confirmed that “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will have a two-week exclusive global IMAX theatrical run starting November 25, before making its streaming debut on the platform on December 23. This release pattern allows the film a significant theatrical showcase before transitioning to Netflix’s extensive subscriber base, a strategy the streamer has increasingly adopted for its high-profile releases.

Netflix first teased the project during this year’s Super Bowl with a brief trailer set to nostalgic music, giving audiences their first proper look at Pitt back in character as Booth alongside period-accurate Old Hollywood styling from co-stars Debicki and Abdul-Mateen II. With the title now confirmed and a definitive release window established, excitement for Pitt and Fincher’s reunion is set to continue building through the fall.
