Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan Reunite for Apple TV’s New Heist Thriller ’12 12 12′
Heist narratives have always thrived on structure, utilizing tight timelines and shifting perspectives to create tension around a single high-stakes job. Apple TV is fully embracing this formula with its latest genre venture, employing a unique triple-timeline approach to distinguish its new series from the crowded crime-thriller landscape.
The series, titled ’12 12 12′, brings together Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan seven years after their collaboration on 2019’s ‘Synchronic’. This time, instead of navigating a reality-bending drug, the duo finds themselves on opposing sides of a complex European heist. Mackie portrays a disgraced FBI agent, while Dornan takes on the role of an American career criminal, engaging in what is described as a “zero-sum game of cat and mouse” across the continent.
This week, Apple TV unveiled the show’s first teaser along with key art and a selection of first-look images, providing fans with their initial glimpse of the eight-episode series ahead of its premiere. The approximately 30-second clip features Mackie’s character outlining the essential rules for a successful heist to Dornan’s character, establishing the calculated, high-stakes dynamic that propels the show.
The title ’12 12 12′ directly reflects the series’ distinctive narrative structure. Each episode navigates through three separate timelines centered around the same pivotal event: the 12 months dedicated to meticulously planning the operation, the 12 hours during which the heist takes place, and the tense 12 days of aftermath that follow. At the heart of all three timelines is an audacious raid on a bank vault hidden beneath the streets of Zurich.
Dornan has previously characterized the project as a cat-and-mouse heist thriller spanning multiple continents, expressing that reuniting with Mackie made the production particularly enjoyable due to their prior working relationship. Both actors also serve as executive producers on the series, with Mackie producing through his Make It With Gravy banner alongside Samantha Corbin-Miller, and David Knoller and Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment completing the executive producer team.
The ensemble cast supporting Mackie and Dornan includes Kali Reis, Jack Kesy, Agathe Rousselle, Sallie Harmsen, José Garcia, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, providing the show with a genuinely international cast that complements its cross-continent narrative. Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content are producing the series, adding further industry credibility to the project.
Apple TV has confirmed that ’12 12 12′ will premiere globally on November 13 with its first two episodes, followed by a new installment released weekly every Friday until its December 25 finale. This rollout strategy ensures the show maintains a steady presence leading into the holiday season, positioning it as one of the platform’s major fall genre offerings.
With a proven creative partnership at its core and a structural gimmick designed to keep audiences guessing about how the three timelines will ultimately intersect, ’12 12 12′ is poised to become one of Apple TV’s most talked-about thrillers when it debuts this November.
