‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Break Box Office Records This Weekend
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has been on a record-breaking spree this summer, showing no signs of slowing down even after several weeks in theaters. What began with a historic opening weekend has evolved into one of the most impressive blockbuster runs in recent history.
The fourth solo film featuring Tom Holland’s iconic web-slinger debuted with an astonishing $360,000,000 domestically, marking the largest domestic opening in box office history, and a remarkable $932,000,000 globally, the second-largest global opening ever recorded. This momentum propelled the film to reach $1,000,000,000 worldwide within just six days, making it the second-fastest film to achieve this milestone, trailing only behind 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame.’
Now, the film is on the verge of hitting a groundbreaking milestone. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is projected to surpass $900,000,000 at the domestic box office this weekend, positioning it to potentially become the first film in history to gross $1,000,000,000 domestically on its own.
As of the latest figures, the film was just $41,600,000 away from the $900,000,000 mark, with box office analysts estimating an additional $18,000,000 this weekend that would push it past that threshold. The only film that has come close to this domestic benchmark is 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ which finished its run at $936,600,000 without ever reaching the billion-dollar mark domestically.
‘Brand New Day’ has already achieved several significant milestones, including becoming the fourth highest-grossing domestic release of all time and crossing $2,000,000,000 globally in approximately three weeks, the second-fastest film to do so after ‘Endgame.’ The film now ranks among an elite group of movies that have surpassed $2,000,000,000 worldwide, joining the ranks of ‘Avatar,’ ‘Titanic,’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige commented on the film’s unprecedented success, expressing surprise at how the studio’s 38th MCU release managed to surpass ‘Endgame’s’ long-standing domestic opening record. This achievement is particularly remarkable considering Marvel’s recent films, like ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ had seen more modest box office performances leading up to this release.
The film’s continued success comes even as it competes with Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ which has become the director’s highest-grossing film ever, grossing over $1,100,000,000 globally. Despite this competition, ‘Brand New Day’ has maintained its position as the top film at the domestic box office for five consecutive weekends, a feat that few blockbusters manage to sustain this far into their theatrical run.

With Disney also planning a theatrical re-release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ as ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore’ on September 25, comparisons between these two franchise titans are likely to heat up as ‘Brand New Day’ aims for uncharted box office territory. Whether it can actually cross the elusive billion-dollar domestic threshold remains to be seen, but this weekend presents its best opportunity yet to make history.
