Cristin Milioti Confirms Sofia Falcone Won’t Appear in ‘The Batman Part II’
Gotham’s cinematic universe has expanded significantly with ‘The Penguin,’ which has turned a supporting Batman villain into one of television’s most praised performances. This success has left fans disappointed that they won’t see the character in the upcoming sequel, as they hoped to see her story continue.
Cristin Milioti, who won a Primetime Emmy, a Critics’ Choice Award, and a Saturn Award for her role as Sofia Falcone in HBO’s ‘The Penguin,’ has been credited with transforming a relatively minor comic book character into one of the franchise’s most intriguing antagonists. This acclaim has sparked speculation about whether Sofia might eventually appear in Matt Reeves’ film universe alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
However, that crossover is not happening anytime soon. As ‘The Batman Part II’ begins filming in Glasgow, Scotland, Milioti confirmed that audiences will not see her reprise the role in the sequel. She addressed the question directly while promoting her new horror film ‘Buddy,’ which opens in theaters on August 28.
“There’s not a chance you’ll see me in it, sadly,” Milioti stated, adding, “But I wait. You know, I would go back to that world in a heartbeat.”
Her remarks align with what director Matt Reeves revealed months ago, confirming at the 2025 Emmys that Sofia would not be part of the sequel’s narrative. Reeves explained that the film’s script was already well-developed by the time ‘The Penguin’ aired, making it challenging to incorporate Sofia without disrupting the established story direction.
Despite her absence, Reeves indicated that the door isn’t completely closed on Sofia’s future in Gotham’s cinematic universe. He praised Milioti’s performance as remarkable and suggested there may be opportunities to work with the character again in the future, even if this sequel isn’t the right fit.
Milioti has consistently expressed her desire to return to the role, previously stating she would “love nothing more” than to bring Sofia back to the big screen, calling it her wildest dream to receive that call. She has also shown interest in sharing scenes with Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman, given their complicated half-sister relationship established in the films.
This relationship, along with a reference to Selina in ‘The Penguin’s’ finale, has kept speculation alive that Sofia’s story isn’t truly over, even without an appearance in the upcoming sequel. Colin Farrell is expected to return as Oswald Cobblepot for several scenes in ‘The Batman Part II,’ though notably, Kravitz’s Catwoman is not set to appear in the film either.
With ‘The Penguin’ still awaiting an official Season 2 announcement and ‘The Batman Part II’ aiming for a 2027 release, the future of Sofia Falcone remains uncertain. For now, fans can only hope that Reeves’ comments about revisiting the character someday will eventually come to fruition.
