Jeremy Renner has spent nearly a decade keeping fans on their toes regarding Clint Barton’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future. Through a series of cryptic social media updates and carefully crafted interview responses, the actor has gained a reputation for teasing his archer persona without ever providing clear confirmations.

This week, that trend continued, coinciding with Marvel’s Phase 6 plans making headlines. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ approaching its December release and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on the horizon, any hint from a returning MCU star tends to ignite fan speculation.

Renner recently fueled the fire with a new Instagram story featuring a close-up of his iconic Marvel costume, captioned “Added to END GAME PRESS,” which has reignited discussions about Hawkeye potentially rejoining the Avengers.

The timing is particularly significant as the post follows Kevin Feige’s official announcement that Renner will reprise Clint Barton for Avengers Infinity Defense, one of two new attractions set to debut at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure. This ride was unveiled during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23 2026 and is scheduled to open in 2028, transporting guests through Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City in a battle against King Thanos.

Renner will not be alone in this attraction, as he is joined by fellow MCU stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, with Iman Vellani appearing as Ms. Marvel to greet guests before the ride begins.

Despite the buzz, Renner’s confirmed return for the theme park attraction does not alter his status on the big screen. Currently, he is not listed among the cast for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and the actor mentioned back in October 2025 that he was not slated to appear in either ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars.’

However, MCU stars have a well-known history of misdirection when it comes to keeping spoilers under wraps. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire famously denied their involvement in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ until the film was released, only to appear in some of its most significant moments.

This history is precisely why a single cryptic Instagram story from Renner is enough to set the rumor mill in motion once again. While nothing in the post confirms an appearance in the upcoming Avengers films, it embodies the kind of ambiguous, on-brand teasing that Renner has embraced for years regarding his Marvel future.

Renner has openly expressed his eagerness to don the Hawkeye suit again if Marvel comes calling, whether for another film or a proper second season of his solo series. Fans have long picked up on that enthusiasm, interpreting even his smallest social media interactions, from shared trailers to captioned selfies, as potential hints about what lies ahead for Clint Barton.

Hawkeye has largely remained on the sidelines during the Multiverse Saga, appearing only in his own Disney+ series and a few episodes of ‘What If…?’ since his debut in 2011’s ‘Thor.’ Given how closely his storyline is tied to characters like Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova, many fans view his eventual return as inevitable rather than optional.

Currently, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is confirmed to feature returning stars including Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart, among others. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027.

Whether Renner’s latest tease leads to anything substantial remains to be seen, but it’s evident that the actor is not finished igniting speculation just yet.
