Curry Barker Records Secret Voice Message for ‘Obsession’ Fans at Halloween Horror Nights
‘Obsession‘ has emerged as one of the most surprising horror hits of the year, transforming a modest budget into a worldwide box office success and catapulting debut filmmaker Curry Barker into the limelight. This psychological thriller, which revolves around a supernatural wish gone awry, has gained significant traction as a streaming sensation on Peacock and sparked conversations within the horror community.
Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights team has taken notice of this cultural phenomenon, and this year is no different. Nikki, the film’s haunted protagonist portrayed by Inde Navarrette, has been included among the scare characters at the parks, allowing fans to meet her in person during the event.
In an exciting twist, creative director John Murdy has announced that Barker has recorded a secret voice message specifically for Halloween Horror Nights attendees, connecting to one of the film’s most chilling recurring jokes.
To access this hidden message, guests are encouraged to find Nikki in the park and provide her with a special password, which will be revealed through Universal Studios’ social media channels. Murdy explained that locating Nikki and delivering the correct phrase could unlock an additional surprise for those willing to seek her out.
This reward ties back to one of ‘Obsession’s’ standout elements: the eerie customer service line for the fictional “One Wish Willow,” the cursed item central to the film’s storyline. In the movie, Bear calls this number in a desperate bid to reverse his wish, only to encounter a cold, unsettling voice on the line, which was actually voiced by Barker himself during the editing process.
Murdy emphasized this connection, stating, “I’ve asked him to record a special message for our fans as if he were the customer service rep from One Wish Willow,” and added that the recording will include a real phone number for fans to call and receive an exclusive message from Barker.

Unlike some other scare characters at Horror Nights, Nikki will not be portrayed by a rotating cast of scare actors performing silently. Instead, Murdy indicated that she will be played by traditional actors delivering lines directly from the film, providing guests with the opportunity to hear dialogue straight from ‘Obsession’ itself.
This meticulous attention to detail also extends to safety, with a production assistant assigned to accompany Nikki as she navigates the park during the event. Halloween Horror Nights is set to begin on August 28 at Universal Orlando, with the Hollywood location following on September 3.
Barker has fully embraced this crossover experience. Discussing the thrill of seeing his character brought to life in the parks, Barker described it as a “dream come true,” reflecting the swift action taken by Universal’s creative team to include Nikki after Murdy viewed the film.
Considering that ‘Obsession’ was produced on a budget of just $750,000, its transition from a streaming success to a fully integrated Halloween Horror Nights attraction speaks volumes about its rapid cultural impact. This turnaround is quite rare for a horror property, evolving from a first-time filmmaker’s passion project to a prominent presence at Halloween Horror Nights within the same year of its release.
For fans attending Horror Nights this year, the quest to find Nikki and her secret hotline message could be the most rewarding scavenger hunt on the map. With in-park performers, the social media password challenge, and Barker’s own voice waiting on the other end of the line, this crossover offers dedicated fans of the film multiple layers to explore.
