Jack Lowden Emerges as Leading Contender for Next James Bond
The quest for the next James Bond has evolved into one of Hollywood’s longest-running guessing games. It has been nearly five years since Daniel Craig donned his tuxedo for the last time in ‘No Time to Die,’ and Amazon MGM Studios has kept its casting process largely under wraps since then.
Despite the secrecy, prediction markets have been busy trying to fill the gaps. Amazon MGM has confirmed that the search for Craig’s successor is officially underway, with Denis Villeneuve directing, Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing, and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penning the script. Industry insiders suggest that screen tests are already in progress, with an announcement anticipated before the year concludes.
Currently, betting markets have a new frontrunner. Jack Lowden is now the favorite to be named the next James Bond, according to traders on Polymarket.com, with his odds at 23 percent and rising.
Lowden’s rise in the betting odds has been swift. For much of this year, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star Callum Turner held the top position, partly due to his recent marriage to pop star Dua Lipa, while other names like Jacob Elordi and Aaron Taylor-Johnson also garnered consistent support from bettors.
This dynamic shifted after podcaster and author Richard Osman mentioned on his show, The Rest Is Entertainment, that he had heard Lowden’s name linked to the casting search. Osman was careful to clarify that he was framing it as Lowden being “strongly considered” rather than a confirmed choice, but his comments were enough to boost Lowden’s odds across various prediction platforms almost instantly.
The Scottish actor first gained recognition with the 2016 BBC miniseries ‘War & Peace’ and has since built an impressive resume that includes roles in ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Mary Queen of Scots.’ His most significant exposure to date has come from starring alongside Gary Oldman in the acclaimed spy drama ‘Slow Horses,’ a role that has only intensified speculation about his suitability for the world of international espionage on a larger scale.
If Lowden secures the role, he would be the first Scottish actor to portray Bond since Sean Connery originated the character decades ago, a detail that has added extra excitement to the online buzz surrounding his candidacy.
Prediction markets tracking the Bond casting have been notably volatile in recent months, with Turner, Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Jack O’Connell all cycling through frontrunner status at different times. Polymarket’s current data shows Lowden leading the pack, although “No Bond chosen” remains a viable option, highlighting how unresolved the search still appears from the outside.
The Polymarket contract monitoring the casting is expected to resolve by the end of December, providing traders with a few more months to respond to any new reports, leaked information, or official confirmations from Amazon MGM. Until then, odds are likely to continue shifting with every new rumor that emerges.
With screen tests reportedly already in progress and a formal announcement expected before the year’s end, the wait for Bond fans may finally be drawing to a close.
