Sandra Bullock And Nicole Kidman Shine At ‘Practical Magic 2’ Premiere
Nearly three decades after enchanting audiences as the Owens sisters, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are once again demonstrating that some on-screen partnerships only improve with age. The two Oscar-winning actresses have been traveling the globe to promote their highly anticipated reunion, and fans are reveling in every red carpet moment.
Their promotional tour kicked off in London, where ‘Practical Magic 2‘ had its European premiere on August 26 at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. This event also marked a rare public appearance for co-star Stockard Channing, who returned to the red carpet for the first time in two years to reprise her role as Aunt Franny.
The focus then shifted to the United States, where Bullock and Kidman dazzled at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Practical Magic 2’ on August 31 at the Directors Village. Photos from the event captured the longtime friends posing together once again as Sally and Gillian Owens, with Kidman in a sheer lace gown and choker, while Bullock opted for a chic black-and-white ensemble that embraced old Hollywood glamour.
The Los Angeles premiere also featured many members of the film’s ensemble cast, including director Susanne Bier alongside co-stars Joey King, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. King and Williams play significant roles in the sequel, with Williams taking on the part of Sandra Bullock’s on-screen daughter, Antonia Owens.
The red carpet attracted a wider array of celebrity guests, including Josh Holloway, along with reality TV personalities Brooks Nader, Grace Ann Nader, Cely Vásquez of ‘Love Island USA,’ and Katie Maloney from ‘Vanderpump Rules.’ This turnout highlighted the immense anticipation surrounding the sequel to the original 1998 cult classic.
‘Practical Magic 2’ continues the story of witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who were raised by their quirky aunts after a family curse took their parents. The original film, based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel, was directed by Griffin Dunne and initially struggled at the box office, only to become a beloved classic over the years.
This time, Susanne Bier takes on directing duties, working from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first film. While plot details for the sequel remain mostly under wraps, it is said to draw inspiration from a later book in Hoffman’s expanded ‘Practical Magic’ series rather than serving as a direct continuation.
In addition to the main cast, the sequel sees the return of Dianne Wiest as Aunt Jet, joining Channing’s Aunt Franny to complete the Owens family’s magical elder generation. Their return has been one of the most anticipated aspects of the film for longtime fans of the original.
Part of the excitement during the press tour has been watching the cast embrace nostalgia, with Williams and King reportedly drawing style inspiration from Bullock and Kidman’s own late-’90s red carpet looks from the original ‘Practical Magic.’ This callback has also influenced the film’s costuming, which heavily reflects the fashion sensibilities of that era.
With the European and Los Angeles premieres now behind them, all eyes are on the film’s theatrical debut. ‘Practical Magic 2’ is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2026, arriving nearly 28 years after the original first captivated audiences.
Given the film’s rocky critical reception back in 1998 and its subsequent rise to cult status, expectations for the sequel are soaring among devoted fans. Whether ‘Practical Magic 2’ can recapture that same magic or conjure something entirely new will soon be revealed.
