Freeform’s ‘31 Nights of Halloween’ Returns with New Series Premiere and Exciting Lineup
Every October, Freeform becomes the ultimate destination for nostalgic spooky season entertainment, and this year’s lineup is no exception. For nearly three decades, the network has created a tradition of Halloween programming, and the latest schedule reveal is already generating excitement among fans eager for their favorite seasonal classics.
This anticipation has only intensified as Freeform expands what “31 Nights of Halloween” means beyond just movie reruns. This year’s edition promises the usual mix of beloved classics along with a significant programming milestone that gives longtime viewers something entirely new to anticipate.
Freeform has officially unveiled the complete schedule for this year’s “31 Nights of Halloween” celebration, which kicks off on October 1 and runs through Halloween night. The lineup is filled with family-friendly favorites such as “Hocus Pocus,” “The Addams Family,” “Beetlejuice,” the “Ghostbusters” franchise, “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “Casper,” along with a series of double features pairing sequels and spiritual companions throughout the month.
The most exciting addition to this year’s celebration is “Coven Academy,” a brand new supernatural drama series premiering as part of the block. Created by Tim Federle, the show is set in New Orleans and follows teenage witches-in-training who are tasked with protecting their city from dangerous ancient forces, marking Freeform’s first major scripted series premiere directly tied to the annual Halloween event.

This year’s schedule heavily features a creature-feature theme, with titles like “Monsters, Inc.,” “Monsters University,” “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed,” and “Frankenweenie” all making appearances throughout the month. This monster mash pairs perfectly with the network’s usual haunted house staples, including “Beetlejuice,” “Casper,” and the “Ghostbusters” franchise, which includes a Freeform premiere of “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”
Longtime fans of the network’s Halloween programming will also recognize familiar double features returning to the schedule, pairing sequels together for extended viewing marathons throughout the month. As always, the block will feature a dedicated Tim Burton marathon, allowing fans to revisit some of the director’s most iconic gothic classics in one extended sitting.
The full 31-day schedule includes everything from family-friendly matinee programming to primetime double features, with specific movies rotating in and out depending on the day. Freeform has consistently positioned this programming block as must-see viewing for the entire month, and this year’s addition of an original scripted series suggests the network aims to deepen that engagement even further.
“31 Nights of Halloween” has become somewhat of an institution since its debut in 1998, originally launched as “13 Days of Halloween” before evolving into the full month-long celebration fans know today. The block has consistently ranked among Freeform’s strongest performing programming stretches of the year, drawing particularly strong numbers among younger adult demographics during previous October runs.
With “Coven Academy” adding a genuinely new element to this year’s celebration and the usual roster of nostalgic favorites rounding out the schedule, Freeform appears confident that this October will continue the block’s tradition of dominating the network’s yearly viewership. Fans eager to plan their spooky season binge-watching now have a full month’s worth of programming to look forward to.
