‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ Season 2 Release Date and What to Expect
Nostalgia-driven revivals have become a hallmark for animation studios lately, but few have managed to recapture the essence of their source material quite like this return to the Land of Ooo. What started as a modest spinoff experiment quickly transformed into one of the year’s most delightful animation surprises, earning a renewal before its first season even concluded.
This swift turnaround highlights how warmly fans embraced this journey back to Finn and Jake’s early adventures. Instead of delving into the intricate, serialized mythology that characterized later ‘Adventure Time’ projects, this spinoff intentionally embraced the lighter, standalone vibe of the franchise’s initial seasons, and audiences responded positively.
Now, Disney+ and Hulu have officially confirmed the return date for ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ Season 2, unveiling a brand-new teaser poster alongside the announcement. All episodes of the new season will be available to stream starting October 2, bringing Finn and Jake back for another round of the wild, self-contained escapades that defined the show’s first outing.
Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, the season promises more of the franchise’s signature blend of chaos and heart, with a synopsis detailing everything from wrestling toads to facing off against baby gladiators and getting caught up in a multitude of magic spells. According to the streamers, no side quest is too strange, too small, or too dangerous for the duo to tackle.

‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ serves as a soft reboot of the original beloved series, set during Finn and Jake’s early days exploring the Land of Ooo together. Rather than following the heavy, multi-season serialization found in more recent franchise entries like ‘Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake,’ the spinoff adheres to standalone episodic storytelling reminiscent of the original show’s earliest, wackier seasons.
Sasha Knight voices the young version of Finn the Human, taking over from Jeremy Shada, who portrayed the character’s adolescent and adult versions across previous ‘Adventure Time’ projects. John DiMaggio returns to voice Jake the Dog, continuing his long-running role from the original series, with the returning voice cast also including Tom Kenny, Hynden Walch, and Olivia Olson.
The first season premiered on June 29 to a warm reception, quickly earning a renewal announcement at San Diego Comic-Con just a month later, with Season 2 confirmed to consist of twenty episodes. That swift renewal indicates just how confident Disney and Cartoon Network Studios were in the spinoff’s early performance and reception.
Beyond its U.S. premiere on Disney+ and Hulu, ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ is also set to expand its reach internationally, with the series scheduled to debut on Cartoon Network and HBO Max in international markets on October 5, just a few days after the domestic Season 2 release. This staggered rollout mirrors the approach taken with the show’s first season, which similarly debuted stateside months ahead of its international premiere.

With composer Matthew Janszen returning to score the new season and showrunner Nate Cash continuing to guide the project’s creative direction, ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ seems poised to build on the goodwill generated by its debut run. For longtime fans who cherished the franchise’s earliest, silliest seasons, this second batch of episodes offers another opportunity to revisit that same carefree spirit.
