A New ‘Street Fighter’ Trailer Has Arrived Ahead of Its October Release Date
Video game adaptations have often faced challenges in Hollywood, but Paramount’s upcoming film based on Capcom’s iconic fighting franchise has been gaining traction with each new release. What began as a simple teaser at The Game Awards has transformed into a robust promotional campaign that embraces the vibrant energy of the source material.
This week, the momentum continued with the unveiling of a new trailer, offering fans a deeper look at director Kitao Sakurai’s interpretation of the franchise as it approaches its theatrical debut. With the film set to release in October, this latest footage arrives at a crucial time in the marketing strategy.
The trailer hints at one of the film’s most eagerly awaited moments, suggesting a potential clash between Ryu and Ken Masters, the franchise’s iconic rivals. Set in 1993, the narrative follows these estranged fighters as they are drawn back into competition by the enigmatic Chun-Li, who recruits them for the upcoming World Warrior Tournament, only for a deadly conspiracy to force them to confront each other and their pasts.
Andrew Koji stars as Ryu alongside Noah Centineo’s Ken Masters, with Callina Liang completing the trio as Chun-Li. The film’s storyline positions their rivalry as more than mere tournament competition, framing it as a deeply personal conflict that could jeopardize their long-standing friendship.
The supporting cast resembles a crossover event, featuring WWE stars Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i and Cody Rhodes as Akuma and Guile, respectively, while Jason Momoa portrays Blanka and also serves as one of the film’s producers.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson plays the formidable boxer Balrog, and David Dastmalchian takes on the role of the main antagonist, M. Bison. The cast also includes Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Olivier Richters as Zangief, and Japanese wrestler Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, with former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski appearing as Joe.
Comedy plays a significant role in the ensemble, featuring Eric André as the flamboyant announcer Don Sauvage and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Orville Peck plays Vega, Mel Jarnson portrays Cammy, and Rayna Vallandingham rounds out the cast as Juli, contributing to one of the most diverse lineups seen in a video game adaptation.
This film marks the third live-action attempt to bring ‘Street Fighter’ to theaters, following the cult classic 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, and the less successful 2009 release ‘Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.’ Principal photography for the new film took place in Australia under the working title “Punch,” running from August to November 2025.
Produced by Legendary Entertainment in collaboration with Capcom and distributed by Paramount, expectations are high for this version to embrace the games’ inherent camp and spectacle, possibly delivering the adaptation that longtime fans have been eagerly anticipating.
‘Street Fighter’ is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.
